  1. Just a heads up really. We've noticed a lot of new cracks recently appearing in the internal plasterwork of the house, some 2-3mm wide, with some under window frames that you can clearly see daylight through. A quick google search has shown that that insurance claims for similar things have risen by 20% over the summer. It would seem to be common in areas with a clay soil, which is exactly what we all have, following a long dry summer. One notable point is that you might resist attempting to fix the issues immediately as once the soil becomes damp again in the autumn, it will swell again and the cracks may close themselves. Of course, this will not be the case in all instances and your house may be just about to fall into a massive hole in the ground.
  2. Blackfriars Bridge, Southwark St, Grt Suffolk St, Trinity Church Sq, Harper Road, hop off your bike and cross New Kent Road, Rodney Place, Rodney Road, Thru the alley by the crossing, Brandon St, Portland St, Wells Way and so on. Did it every day, really quick and quiet.
  3. There's a ski resort in Colorado called Beaver Creek. In Beaver Creek there's a 'bottle shop' called Beaver Liquors. Now that's good. Whereas Pussey Liquors is just sh:t.
  4. The Mumfords playing live could potentially be a solution to the strange bottles of yellow liquid problem.
  5. Anyone fancy a pint down the Blow Inn?
  6. The bizarre pavlovian effect where University Challenge contestants immediately take a gulp of water on answering a question correctly.
  7. Crikey Blah Blah watch yourself, You're really going to wind Louisa up with that mispelling of consistent.
  8. I see they've left their bins out at number 37 again. Ought to be ashamed of 'emselves. I say they ought to be ashamed of 'emselves.
  9. Exactly how is London 'in desperate need of additional housing'? London is in desperate need of additional transport infrastructure to cope with the spiralling population growth that all the (for profit) property development is adding to. There's a lot of singing and dancing about how positive all the current transport improvement is but it's nowhere near enough. All of this while a significant amount of high-end property is bought as an investment and sitting empty. We're struggling to get on a bus or train now, how are we going to in the future? The London Bridge development looks like it's going to provide us with less of a service than before. I can see the benefit of more affordable housing obviously, however the fact that this extra housing is situated in East Dulwich would probably render it fairly unaffordable from the off.
  10. I feel I must stress to all readers that, however angry you may get, on no account would it be advisable to explode in the park. Asides the obvious damage to oneself, this action will almost certainly cause danger to other park users, would damage the path itself and cause the entire park to be closed for some considerable duration while pieces of you are removed from the surrounding trees and landscape.
  11. About 20 years ago I used to do this exact route. Some roads may have changed their usage since then but give it a go. Some busy roads but fairly off piste generally. Half Moon Lane, Dulwich Road, Brixton Water Lane, Lambert Road, Mandrell Road, Lyham, Crescent Lane, Long Road, Battersea Rise, Boutflower Rd, Strath Terr, Plough Rd, Harbut, Nantes Cl, thru the underpass, Wandsworth Bridge Road and then a slow coast thru the park to get my breath back before I arrived. About 35 mins as I remember.
  12. Asked by my son? When Father Christmas gets home, does he go down the chimney or does he just use the door?
  13. Just put it in a plastic bag and post it through their letterbox

    ffs

Maybe if you'd waited a while you would have seen the person in a dog suit with big flappy ears turn up, pick up the steaming turd in a plastic bag, and then stroll on. Nearby bushes rustle as the TV camera crew sniggers.

I agree EP, but would also say that this forum is potentially, if not already, a valuable resource for assimilating information that could ultimately lead to prevention.
  17. It would appear that these incidents are connected. http://www.eastdulwichforum.co.uk/forum/read.php?5,1196034

    Radon

There's a high level of radox in our bathroom but it's never attracted the attention of any solicitors.
  20. Put's anorak on... After several months of deliberating I finally went for one of these. It's the absolute nuts. I think it's late 80's early 90's but I'm guessing. Pair it up with a decent phono stage/amp/speaker combination and when you're finished you'll be able to smell Miles's breath and the drummer's armpits. Some sellers insist on collection only because they are a bit on the sensitive/fragile side. The platter and tonearm float on a sprung bed. Mine was delivered with the shipping screws tightened and with a little bit of adjustment using a screwdriver, a small spanner and a spirit level she was good to go. Yes, you can actually use tools to fix these things rather than throw it away and buy another one and setting the thing up nicely is also part of the pleasure. It takes a little while to source a decent one. People recommend better tonearms (like the SME series 3) but the Linn on here is a winner too. You probably want to wall mount it to keep the stylus set a bit sensitively. For my money it's a hell of a lot better than a sprayed bit of 18mm MDF with some average components glued to it. I'd recommend having a little nose here... http://www.theanalogdept.com http://www.vinylengine.com http://www.audiokarma.org The other one I considered was an Acoustic Research AR turntable which looks beautiful too. You could easily get carried away with all this but when you live in a smallish house 9 inches away from your neighbours, around the corner from a bus route and on the flight path to Heathrow, there are limits. ...takes anorak off.
  21. "Internally the accommodation is arranged as a number of interconnected rooms with associated WC facilities". Outside there are some roads with cars on and some people walking around.
  22. We had a new boiler fitted in our bathroom. The plumbers took the mains supply from the kitchen ventilation. As a result the boiler upstairs only worked when the kitchen light was on downstairs. Genius.
