Southern are blaming an overtime ban by ASLEF drivers and say an amended service will operate until 20th May.

It’s a consequence of trying to run the franchise on the cheap (thus maximising profit) by employing fewer drivers than the service requires, leaving themselves dependent on drivers agreeing to work voluntary overtime on their days off.

It's 2 trains per hour for most of the day between London Bridge and East Croydon via Selhurst with some additional peak services to and from Beckenham Junction.

On Saturday, there's no service to East Croydon with all trains running to Beckenham Junction instead.

This has been going on for years and will never be sorted out. It’s soon going to be summer and cancellations will increase. Working in London Bridge, it sometimes took me up to 75mns to go home by train. Now working just beyond Monument and cycling there in 23 mins max…. For me, this is the only way to get anywhere fast and stop wasting time waiting for trains and buses and throwing money into a black hole.

For those who are fit (and frequently young) this is an excellent choice, but for those of us less fit, or indeed old with the frailties that accompany this state, this may not be a choice, in which case the normally infrequent (2 an hour?!) and frequently missing train services are a disgrace. And if you are not travelling North : South of course effectively non existent.

I don't know why CPR Dave says that as the rail service from Denmark Hill, Peckham Rye, Forest Hill and Honor Oak Park has massively improved since the Overground launched.

While Southern is basically being told to cut services by the DfT, TfL managed to maintain services during the pandemic despite the massive loss to their revenue.

If you promote a train service as being high frequency such as the Overground and the Elizabeth line, people will use it.

    • Yes, thanks, that's true, the previous information on here might be out of date even if I could find it. I was hoping someone on here might have up to date info. I will phone them in the morning.  I had a previous thread on here about the Oxfam book shop but for various reasons I haven't been able to get stuff down there, and now I just want it out of the way.
    • Best to call them. What might have been the case last week may not be now. There's also Oxfam book shop in HH
    • Because it's easier to ask on here than have to make a special trip out when I'm very busy and also expecting deliveries 🙄 And then possibly have to go out again with the books. And I thought I remembered a previous discussion on here. Isn't that what a local forum's for?
    • Our very large apartment in a converted industrial building in the area is very unusual so we are keen to find a really good local estate agent who may have experience  in marketing and selling unique properties in the area and who  can 'think outside the box' . We already know of all the agents who deal in unusual properties throughout London (ie not just in this area)  eg 'The Modern House' etc etc. thanks for any tips!
