Lordship Lane @ Townley to go under temporary three-way traffic light control for five months

It seems Thames Water are going to be doing extensive works between the Townley and Heber junctions on Lordship Lane starting on July 3rd for five months until the end of November. Lordship Lane will be subject to three-way traffic controlled lights……brace yourselves as it is likely to be chaos.

Looks like I'll be riding via Dulwich Village, Calton Avenue and East Dulwich Grove for DKH Sainsbury's then.   LL retail area I can just ride via Crystal Palace Road to avoid the traffic.

Why on earth is it taking five months???

If this is true, it is symptomatic of how relaxed Southwark seems to be about traffic gridlock caused by road works. Perhaps it's because it plays into their LTN agenda and it's likely to increase their revenue from drivers incurring fines trying to avoid it.  But this will severely affect the users of four bus routes (185, 40, 176 and P13) who can't avoid it.  

When something similar was proposed years ago which would have affected Grove Vale, Harriet Harman intervened to organise a bridge over the works so that bus routes were not disrupted.  This kind of solution is needed here to avoid such a lengthy gridlock.

Yes, it's definitely a conspiracy between the evil geniuses at Southwark Council, Thames Water, and Thames Water's contractor to something something something LTNs. That's definitely the most plausible explanation that any reasonable person would land on. 🙄

The P13 should be the least affected by the works as it avoids the Townley Road junction.

3way lights at the stn……

nightmare traffic today, tailbacks to overhill road!

apparently it’s for 5 days

p4 might be a better option for commuters

The good news is that currently it's only a two way set of temporary lights on Townley Road when I went past which isn't affecting Lordship Lane at all.

The two Heber Road bus stops are currently closed as I saw yesterday, which makes me think the Thames Water works are about to be extended to LL.

Will this 3 way control run concurrently with that huge hole that's been dug into the pavement that's been causing a constriction in the road as well?

All I've seen since the three way traffic lights were introduced was the line dug extended into the road at LL.  

There's very little disruption if any on that stretch of LL, however that may change when the school run returns in September.

That would be well timed! Logically if they had to dig up LL to any extent surely it should be done over the summer? Unless that's impossible for some reason without doing TR first.
