What a desperate non story the parking ticket is. At work I have contractors putting in parking tickets all the time which they have incurred on the job. The worst you can say is that it is a grey area. This story is just further proof that all issues around cars, LTN's, parking are being politicised for motives other than the ostensible ones at hand. My view is that it has been going on for years locally - it must actually be quite inconvenient for some that now the the motoring culture wars are being so openly owned by the national Conservative hierarchy.

This is what happens when Dulwich residents continually vote Labour back in.  Despite not mentioning LTNs or CPZs in their manifesto at the last election, they'll continually milk residents for extra revenue using greenwashing tactics.

I voted labour for the first time ever in my life because they put the LTNs in and the other major parties were standing against LTNs.

A democracy is not guaranteed to give you the results you want.

That is true, just so long as the process that got the result is democratic and transparent.

In this case, and most particularly in regard to imposition of a borough- wide CPZ, I do not believe the process has been democratic. The CPZ was not mentioned in the manifesto.

Such flawed logic here. You take a local transport challenge and apply a measure that impacts a whole area. First it was commuters in East Dulwich now school traffic in Dulwich Hill. Laughable.

An area wide CPZ will do nothing to impact the school traffic and how is that fair to those paying for the CPZ, in the majority of streets not impacted by the schools?

CPZs are now the new school street for pro-lobbyists.

And groups like CAD the council's puppets.

So Clean Air Dulwich wan't to resolve an non-existent problem?   The reason there's parking spaces is because drivers don't want to park there or use the streets, so lets make a few quid for Southwark Council by imposing charges on those minority who park in Dulwich Wood Ward.

If Clean Air Dulwich was a right-wing think tank, they'd be rightly criticised for the riduculous ideas they've come up with.

Yeah right, Clean Air Dulwich is undertaking another tactic to ensure they maintain their infulence over Labour run Southwark Council in the same way the think tanks maintain infulence with the Conservative Party.   It's how you stay relevant by being on the side of the governing organisation.

They're not about personal freedom. They like to claim so but they're very much for freedom of one group at the expense of another, where the other is usually part of the out group.

The sad nature of this and other social media networks is that so many people use it to complain, rather than post positive things.  Some of my WhatsApp groups are taken over by one or two people who seem to trawl Twitter, the Daily Mail, GB News for the latest thing to froth about.  It can of course be therapeutic to get things off your chest.  There is a good thread on the Lounge to have a good moan, but that is done with humour, and sadly in the last two years or so most regular posters left the Lounge.  This site is a good source of local info but again many cannot resist having a go at something or someone.  Anyway I'm complaining about people complaining so I'll shut up

Nextdoor is even worse than this place, I left when I explained clearly why a bus stop on the very narrow pavement at the LL end of Dulwich Common couldn't have a bus shelter by the row of houses and was told off for being "rude" for explaining in a clear and concise manner to the poster why it couldn't happen.

And their latest missive....what a load of blinkered nonsense......who do these people claim to represent exactly?

Love the fact mums for lungs is pushing the consultation out far and wide...does the council not have enough responses yet and a wider base required...;-)

When does Mal take over the pro LTN shift on here?

Huh?

Oh I understand! You know for a fact that no one supports the LTN, therefore all the pro LTN people must be in cahoots otherwise that would mean or might have actual support. And we all know no one likes these green policies which don't treat cars as sacred because the Tories said so. And they are never wrong about anything.

The fact you think I'm a Tory is hilarious.   Now how about some discussion about the topic instead of using the same sardonic humour you and Mal usually provide.

Haven't they just admitted to themselves that the LTN isn't working then if they want even more parking restrictions?  So much for the LTN magically making traffic and pollution disappear!

You make a very good point!

Ha ha, I think you'll find that's the far left of Labour that have never taken responsibility for anything...

Defending the Tories now by blaming labor? Er remind me who's been in power for a while...?

Discussion about the topic? Does that include the weird insinuations about myself and @malumbu that you've been making?

For what it's worth you, the press and Keir Starmer are all guilty of towing the Tory party line as if it's a fact. I don't really get it but it looks like you don't have to be a Tory to carry their flag.

Bic, good point Mal and Mr C are doing a great job taking this thread way of course, back to thread saboteur mode. Can you please stick to the thread subject matter.

As you say Bic, if LTNs were working so very well we'd have no need for CPZ to 'drive people out of their cars'.

Nope.

Only the anti LTN people expected the LTN to be the perfect and compete solution to all problems.

Welp I stubbed my toe this morning. Clearly the LTN is a massive failure because it didn't prevent that. Back in my car to get a coffee at the local shop 3 minutes walk away.

In reality the LTN is one element of many needed to reverse 50 years of relentlessly pro car policy.

On street bike parking is another small element.

Not giving colossal amounts of massively subsidized free storage exclusively to cars aka the CPZ is another.

There will be more. I and most likely the majority of fellow residents will use our democratic right to vote for people who promise to do more.

    • I remember seeing something a few years ago on TV about a fox that was actually biting through people's shopping / takeaway food bags.  It was situated in an alleyway.  Not in London.  Very interesting in how the  urban foxes brain development has  been affected by their surroundings.   Not an exact quote from Darwin.  It's the adaptable that survive / not the strongest or the most intelligent.   I would be worried if a fox came close me.   Because they might be after my fur babies and they carry a lot of nasties.   Although they look beautiful from a distance or on a 🎄 card.
    • Driving down Lordship lane around 2.45pm today saw a v sick looking fox walking in and out of the crowd.
    • I know I'm a bit premature but don't want to forget through too much Chrisntas cheer! Southwark Council Christmas trees recycling arrangements 2025 - bit worrying for the future that they're emphasising the free bit. "We’ll collect and recycle your real Christmas tree for free!  Trees should not be taller than 5ft. You should chop any taller trees into smaller pieces. Remove all decorations and the pot or stand and recycle it by: putting your tree with your garden waste containers on collection day requesting a free collection if you do not have a garden waste collection  taking it to our Reuse and Recycling Centre [43 Devon Street, SE15 1AL open 08:30-16:30 Mon-Sun] If you live in a flat you must leave the tree: outside on the kerb visible for the collection crew not in a bin store" I'll add the link to the collection booking service when it opens on 22 December.
    • Most homes in East Dulwich / Good Green ward have collections on Tuesdays or Wednesdays. So no changes for them this year.  But for those few local homes with collections normally on Thursdays or Friday, with Christmas, Boxing day happening on Thursday and Friday any blue, brown or green bin collections will be delayed by two days. So Thursday 25 December collections will be on Saturday 27 December and Friday 26 December collections on Sunday 28 December. For New Years day those Thursday collections will be on the Friday 2 January and those with normal collections of Fridays that will be on Saturday 3 January. To double check when your Southwark Council rubbish, recycling, food waste, garden waste collections will be taking place please please check here - https://services.southwark.gov.uk/bins/lookup
