Book Recommendations

Recommended Posts

Off on holiday next week, and hoping (possibly slightly wishfully) that I will get a few moments to read a book!

No time to do my usual and browse in a book shop for inspiration, so I'd love any recommendations of recently read and enjoyed books from anyone who'd like to offer one...

Thanks

Kate Atkinson's Life after Life - I loved it.

Where'd you go Bernadette by Maria Semple is really good too.

When I was on holiday I tried some of Nora Ephron's writing fo r the first time and loved it - essays work quite well for holiday, and don't be misled by 'essay' as they're all v easy reads! I read 'Things I hate about my neck', and then got her novel 'Heartburn' on my kindle and really liked it too (it's pretty obviously autobiographical).

The last two books I read have been 'Gone Girl' by Glillian Flynn, and 'Alys, Always' By Harriet Lane. Out of these I preferred the Harriet Lane one, but both are the type of books you can't wait to find out what happens next.

Agree Gone Girl is a good read but like the poster above I felt it fizzled out a bit and got ridiculous. I thought 'before i go to sleep' a much better thriller, if you are after one.

Also the new Maggie O Farrell - think is instructions for a heatwave? - not her best but still v readable and great holiday book.
