Hi. I've had this posted before in the Trading Post section but have been advised by nice people that I should try this section instead. Not a new subject, so apologies if you've read it before.

Hello

I'm just throwing this out there into the universe and not expecting any replies, but here goes:

I'm looking to learn a new instrument for a show I do in the West End-"Once" at The Phoenix. We're all actor/musicians and part of the show is a 20 minute session we play on the stage/bar before the lights go down. We do a mix of Irish and Czech songs and we've been doing it for a while now and each of us are trying to learn new instruments. I've attempted to learn the Tin Whistle but I'm struggling without any real guidance. I sound a bit like the 20th Century Fox theme on the flute-

Ok, not that bad, but I could certainly do with some of the rudiments.

I'm aware that it's a long shot so I'm hedging my bets by also saying that I have an amazing accordion here that I could do with learning to play, so I'd be happy to try that instead if there's no whistle players out there.

Rather than just paying for lessons I'd like to try a skill swap, so I'd be happy to teach guitar or give acting lessons, particularly Shakespeare (I've done a fair bit of that, including a couple of stints at the RSC).

Again, I'm just throwing it out there. If you're not in, you can't win. Thanks for reading.

Aidan

    • Let's not forget this is the lowest level of local politics. If McCash really thought his defection could trash the Labour Party nationally, and it was loaded with invective and exhibitionism, then that's pretty much the definition of a "hissy fit"! Scooping the Green nomination for DaWN constituency is also going to be a lot harder for a Marxist arriviste than you suggest. There may be a wave of new, younger Polanski-ites that have joined the Green Party of E&W recently, but it's the long-standing, often retired members of the Party that tend to participate in candidate interview panels and bother voting in selections...
    • They've had 26 years or so of trading, and if anyone deserves decent retirement... In my view they're going out at the top. It's clearly being sold, assuming it all goes through as a very more more than just a going concern.
    • I had heard this was on the cards a while ago, sad, the end of an era, but well done Rod and Tim for stewarding a beacon of excellence for so many years.
    • Both your hopes will be fine, I think. Our waitress will stay on. The downstairs is getting refurbished, and the bar area enlarged, presumably by removing that awkward little 'lobby' by the loos.
