alice.caucacau@gmail
Hello everyone, My son (in Year 2) is currently attending an intensive tennis training course - delivered by an LTA registered coach. He is loving it and would like to continue training in the future. If this happens, by the time he reaches secondary school he will need to train twice a day nearly every day so won't be able to attend school full time. Do you know if there is any state secondary school in the area (we live in Camberwell) that would allow him time off for his trainings? Home schooling would not be ideal for him as I think he would thrive in a school environment. I am also aware there might be opportunity to apply for a sport scholarship but this would be to help pay the fee for a private school? Will it be a school specialised in sports? I grew up in Italy so I am an outsider of the British education system 🙂 Link to comment https://www.eastdulwichforum.co.uk/topic/332026-secondary-school-timetable-for-sport-training/ Share on other sites

Bumpkin
Kingsdale do sports scholarships & I believe are sympathetic to time off for training, however, as above, I really wouldn’t start worrying about secondary for at least another couple of years. northernmonkey
Not clear why he wouldn't be able to attend school? School days in state run from around 8:30 -3pm so gives time for pre and post school training. Kids who swim or row work around this. Assume that the twice a day is strength / fitness and then coaching or match play which feels as though it could fit around. Private schools may have better facilities and more focus on high level sports but unlikely that they'd have a compressed timetable to facilitate. Pugwash
A friend of my daughter was recommended advance tennis instruction whilst at secondary school. She was so good that her instructor offered reduced tuition rates. She trained daily after school for a couple of hours and also at weekends, No school would allow their pupils to miss lessons to undertake tennis sessions. The exception probably would be if the child was selected to play at Commonwealth/Wimbledon/ Olympic level.
