Sydney Carton
Surely the owner of the prefab deserves some kind of civic award for his beautiful garden 7 Link to comment https://www.eastdulwichforum.co.uk/topic/332041-lordship-lane-prefab-garden/ Share on other sites
mr.chicken
He's been doing it for years. I'm glad the taller house they built next door didn't ruin the garden. It's always such a delight. 1 Link to comment https://www.eastdulwichforum.co.uk/topic/332041-lordship-lane-prefab-garden/#findComment-1636490 Share on other sites
Sue
Later on the garden is full of dahlias! Link to comment https://www.eastdulwichforum.co.uk/topic/332041-lordship-lane-prefab-garden/#findComment-1636497 Share on other sites
Nigello
Queen Mary stopped off there once. She was on her way to see the rhododendrons in Dulwich Park (which she did annually, according to what I’ve read) and asked her driver to stop so she could speak to the owner. 1 Link to comment https://www.eastdulwichforum.co.uk/topic/332041-lordship-lane-prefab-garden/#findComment-1636511 Share on other sites

When was that? Surely the prefabs must have been built after the war, so after 1945? And surely it would have taken some time for the garden to mature? And the person who lives there now and is such a keen gardener would hardly have been born then? Jenijenjen
Agree the garden is always a delight, old school planting. Queen Mary didn't die until 1953 so possibly she spoke to original tenants which I've always assumed, perhaps incorrectly, to be current tenant's parents? I'm also glad the new builds do not detract in any way from the garden. It must be one of the last lived in prefabs in London. Nigello
Knock on the door and find out, just like I did! Link to comment https://www.eastdulwichforum.co.uk/topic/332041-lordship-lane-prefab-garden/#findComment-1636594 Share on other sites
heartblock
He gave me some nerines,. When the new build was planned he was offered a lot of money...but would never sell - I would love Southwark Council to put a preservation order on it so it can only be a garden and never be built on. 1 Link to comment https://www.eastdulwichforum.co.uk/topic/332041-lordship-lane-prefab-garden/#findComment-1636818 Share on other sites
Mystic Mog
It's so lovely really cheers up a rather otherwise bleak area. 1 Link to comment https://www.eastdulwichforum.co.uk/topic/332041-lordship-lane-prefab-garden/#findComment-1636825 Share on other sites
redjam
It's so beautiful, all year round. Hats off to the owner. I always stop and admire it - a little bit of beauty and civic pride to lift the spirits of anyone passing. I'm so glad the owner resisted it being swallowed up by that bland new build behind it.
