If you have children starting in reception at Goose Green in Sept who don't already go to the nursery, would you like a playdate?

My little girl goes to another school nursery which she loves, so I'm trying to make the transition to a new 'big school' something exciting rather than scary for her. She has friends who go to Goose Green nursery who are also starting reception, but as they'll already know loads of classmates I was wondering if any other newcomers fancied meeting up over the summer...

Dear Verds,

Are you coming to the new reception parents meeting on Wednesday? There are 2 sessions; 2pm or 6pm.

At those meetings you will be able to sign up for stay and play sessions where your daughter will have a chance to meet her classmates to be.

Also the PTA plan a picnic (on the basis that the sun has to shine one day) at the start of the summer and another at the end. These have proved very popular and a good way to make some contacts. The PTA will be at those meetings and happy to chat.

Don't presume that nursery kids will stick together it really isn't like that at all, it's a lovely friendly welcoming place and your little girl will be just fine.

    • I'm in the middle of the civil service pension crisis with no pension for 4 months and counting. No access to the much publicised loans either. I have emailed Helen Hayes several times. It took her 6 weeks to contact Capita on my behalf but no follow up, no reply, she didn't attend the Westminster Hall debate about the issue either. Lots of other MPs are speaking and acting on behalf of their constituents but I've had no joy. Has anyone else please? What works to get help from Helen Hayes?

    • Honestly, the squirrels are not a problem now.  They only eat what has dropped.  The feeders I have are squirrel proof anyway from pre-cage times.  I have never seen rats in the garden, and even when I didn't have the cage.  I most certainly would have noticed them.  I do have a little family of mice which I have zero problem about.  If they stay outside, that's fine with me.  Plus, local cats keep that population down.  There are rats everywhere in London, there is plenty of food rubbish out in the street to keep them happy.  So, I guess you could fit extra bars to the cage if you wanted to, but then you run the risk of the birds not getting in.  They like to be able to fly in and out easily, which they do.
