Trees cut down today on Goose Green

Hello,

I live opposite Goose Green and noticed that one of the large trees was cut down today. The branches of another two large trees have been trimmed back and I fear they’ll also be cut down in the coming days. 
Does anyone know why the council are doing this? 
It’s really sad to see.

I had previously seen a notice on one of the large trees saying it was going to be cut down as it was diseased. Don't remember what disease but didn't see notices on any other trees...

The council will plant new trees to compensate when it has to remove any. Trees are great but none can be left to rot or cause damage to other trees, buildings or living creatures. The tree department does a good job in Southwark, on the whole.
