I was walking along, in a hurry to meet a friend at the picture house.  Two mothers with double buggies were strolling along and I couldn't get past them.  I said excuse me , could I go past and they turned round astonished and pointed out there was no room to get past.  I said yes, so perhaps you could go single file for a little bit so I can go past.  Why should we do that? they asked.  So I could get past I repeated.  They let me past and I heard them bad mouthing me ......

I had a humorous thread about yummy mummies and daddies that I may try and find.  But this is gentrified SE London and part and parcel of living in the area.  Perhaps some of you who may identify as yummy mummies or daddies may with to comment!  Maybe this thread is best moved to the family section

😮😮😮

I can't believe I just read that.

I agree with Malumbu, move it to the family section where it may be more likely to be read (and hopefully commented on) by local parents.

My mouth is still open.

Let alone the buggies, it is only common courtesy if two or more people are walking side by side for one or more of them to move if someone else needs to pass!

It exists. It’s everywhere. People listening to music/having phone conversations on speaker on the bus, day-glo mummies and daddies on cycles on footpaths with the portable excuse of kiddywink on board/in sidecar, oafs who CBA to put their bibs back in. Don’t let them win!

Oh it's all relative Nigello, I expect that you have done irritating things in your life, I certainly have.  It's annoying, but generally doesn't cause harm.

Good citizenship is the key, how you achieve this I don't know. Generally we as a nation are polite and helpful.  In some situations people, who on the face of it may look the least likely to help, will rush in.

And on cyclists, ultimately one less car on the road, no matter how annoying they are.

It's all about how you've been brought up that matters, some with the spoon in the mouth have no common sense or understanding of reality, they copy what they see on tv reality shows, say no more...............................

Could say so much more, but admin may ban  me.......................................................

You were lucky, I'm usually confronted with a buggy, bicycle, scooter combo from the mummies and daddies of Alleyn's JAGs, Judith Kerr - hitting the back of my legs, not letting me pass and forcing me into hedges or the road....

I agree - entitled and rude.

There is definitely a different mood in Dulwich nowadays...it has certainly changed over the last few years and I think it is two things 1) covid made a lot of people really selfish 2) with house prices the way they have been the last few years the Dulwich demographic has started to change again - more of the "money no object" types and that's not good for local vibes!

I was exiting the ED PictureHouse recently. I held the door open for a couple coming in with at least one buggy (can't remember if it was more than that). They breezed past me without even looking at me or acknowledging me or thanking in me in any way. Standard operating procedure on LL?

Yep, I get this A LOT. Fed up with London mums thinking they're VIPs just because they've spawned a child.

Looking after young kids isn't always a breeze. Often you can feel quite stressed, tired, and distracted. Give people a bit of a break, they're often feeling a bit harassed, rather than entitled.

That said, it would be good to widen the pavements on Lordship Lane. There are lot's of pinch points and it does get very busy at weekends. It was a shame that the temporary widening that was put in place during Covid was reversed. I would like to see more space for pedestrians rather than prioritising space for a handful of parked cars.

    • What was he doing on the stage at Glastonbury? Or on the stage at the other concert in Finsbury Park? Grinning like a Cheshire cat whilst pissed and stoned 20 somethings on the promise of free internet sung-- Oh Jeremy Corbyn---  What were his policies for Northern mining towns with no jobs or infrastructure? Free Internet and university places for youngsters. What were his other manifesto pledges? Why all the ambiguity over Brexit?  I didn't like Thatcher, Blair or May or Tony but I respected them as politicians because they stood by what they believed in. I respect all politicians across the board that stick to their principles. Corbyn didn't and its why he got  annihilated at the polls. A socialist, anti imperialist and anti capitalist that said he voted for an imperialist and pro capitalist cabal. He refused to say how he'd vote over and over again until the last knockings. He did so to appease the Islington elite and middle class students he was courting. The same people that were screaming that Brexit was racist. At the same time the EU were holding black and Asian immigrants in refugee camps overseas but not a word on that! Corbyn created and courted a student union protest movement that screamed at and shouted down anyone not on the left . They claimed Starmer and the centre right of labour were tories. He didn't get elected  because he, his movement and policies were unelectable, twice. He turned out not to have the convictions of his politics and died on his own sword.    Reform won't win an election. All the idiots that voted for them to keep out Labour actually enabled Labour. They'll be back voting tory next time.    Farage wouldn't be able to make his millions if he was in power. He's a very devious shyster but I very much doubt he'd actually want the responsibility that governance requires.
    • The purge of hard left members that were part of Corbyn's, Mcdonnel's and Lansmans momentum that purged the party of right wing and centrist members. That's politics. It's what Blair did to win, its what Starmer had to do to win. This country doesn't vote in extreme left or right governments. That's partly why Corbyn lost  We're pretty much a centrist bunch.  It doesn't make it false either. It's an opinion based on the voting patterns, demography and statistics. Can you explain then why former mining constituencies that despise the tories voted for them or abstained rather than vote for Corbyns Labour?  What is the truth then? But he never got elected!!! Why? He should have been binned off there and then. Why he was allowed to hang about is an outrage. I hold him party responsible for the shit show that we've had to endure since.
    • Depends on what the Barista says doesnt it? There was no physical confrontation with the driver, OP thinks she is being targetted when she isnt. These guys work min wage under strict schedules so give them a break unless they damage your stuff
    • CPR Dave, attendance records are available on Southwark's website. Maggie Browning has attended 100% of meetings. Jon Hartley has attended 65%.
