Always been a lovely quiet street since I moved in. But in the last week there has been an innceaantly barking dog most nights somewhere nearby. Has anyone else heard it at night? And does anyone know exactly where it is so that I can report it?

Furthermore, a couple of lads on scooters (one on a small motorbike with a white helmet) have been using the street as a bit of a circuit of late. Has anyone also noticed this? Can anything be done about it? I feel like I'm going mad through lack of sleep!

Must be a different dog because this one was barking for about 3 hours solid last night and it's starting to drive me mad! I'm certainly not someone to complain over the small things and, as a dog owner myself, I'm all too aware that dogs bark. Happy to drop a note through a door before resorting to calling Noise Control or the police.

Re the scooters.. I've had messages from a couple of others saying that it's not just the noise, but the behaviour of the riders that have been causing problems so will definitely be phoning 101 next time.

RE: The scooters, the lads live on Playfield, Lytcott and Melbourne. They come out every summer to fix up and parade their scooters, however they are not out there til all hours of the night. Every year the same neighbours phone the police and make the same complaints - the police come round see they are lads hanging out not causing any trouble or damage and leave them to it. The Police have been around there twice this week alone and spoken with the boys... they are nice and polite boys who have all grown up around there. All it takes is for you to have a word with them if they are disturbing you.

No doubt the ones that have PM'd you are the said ones who are making the complaints, in which case they must be aware of how many times the police come and have a chat and laugh with the boys and leave them be.

I hope the issue with the barking dog is resolved, that would drive me mad.

    • Have applied the green roof at a number of properties and no issues you are concerned about detected. Have issues with cats defecating in the vicinity, however, they are not selecting the green roof specifically. Use decent compost, slow release fertiliser specific for green roofs, and lay it methodically not leaving blank patches. It looks amazing when cared for and adds value.
    • Some suggestions for mandatory action might include:- 1. Permit retailers to display facial images on the premises  of previous offenders at their local store. 2. Sound an alert and display images on screens inside the store when the FR flags up a person entering who is on the national database of shoplifters. 3. Physically bar recognised shoplifters from the premises. Should they attempt to force entry then charges should be pressed under aggravated trespass, which  a criminal offence under the Criminal Justice and Public Order Act 1994. 4. Change the law to allow retailers to have enhanced powers of citizens arrest. What would you suggest? The UK seems to have the most lenient policy towards shoplifting , probably because of other demands on the police force. On the plus side, they may have more time for it now that non-crime hate incidents will no longer be investigated. Other countries, such as the USA have much more sever punishment as does Singapore where repeat offenders or aggravated cases can be sentenced to up to 3 years in prison, a fine, or both.
    • No, we'd have to be in a police state.  You'd have to get this made law.  Unless it is in Reform's policies.  I'll check. https://www.gov.uk/government/news/live-facial-recognition-technology-to-catch-high-harm-offenders Not government policy
