This is Granville House which was once 61 Overhill Road, the 'twin' house which was known as Springfield Mount is still standing as 63 Overhill. Does anyone on the forum have any further information or images of this house build around 1870, probably by Joseph Tall, a constructor of concrete houses. Jim

Any information at all. I have been researching Joseph Tall for some time, at one point his son Joseph Mingay Tall was living at number 63 then known as Springfield Mount. I believe both houses were constructed with concrete for which father and son both held patents for this method of construction. I'd also be interested to discover when it was pulled down and why...

Have you seen the annotation, "Hit by V1 destroyed" on the the other side of the card at https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/235476138233?  There are several online sites detailing WW!! London bomb damage, and at least one ?authoritaive map,  that you could check.  There's been mention here previously.

It could be worth contacting the Local History Group within the Dulwich Society - they have a number of people that have undertaken research into area and may be able to assist.

Thanks for recent replies, I was unaware of the additional information that was available alongside the front of the postcard and this has added to my files. In reply to Sue, there is a link to the Concrete House on Lordship Lane. Charles Drake who built it, was previously employed by Joseph Tall. Tall lived in various other concrete houses in the vicinity and was probably responsible for their construction although there are no records to show this. There is a terrace of 5 concrete houses on Belvoir Road which face a further pair on the south side. Both Joseph Tall senior and his son Joseph Mingay Tall were living there in 1881 and JM Tall was at 1 Belvoir Road in 1873 when Drake moved into his newly built house 300 yards away....

You can search https://www.britishnewspaperarchive.co.uk/ and often see enough OCR  of articles found to get a good idea of whether they contain something of interest, though to see them in full a subscription is needed.   I found several that definitely were when searching for 'Joseph Tall' but don't have a current subscription.

    • Hi  I really thought I'd seen a more recent post on the forum about home education meet ups. I can't find it though. Hope some of these might provide leads. https://www.eastdulwichforum.co.uk/topic/137603-home-schooling-advice-anyone-wants-to-do-it-together/#comment-1092093 Very old post but group seems still to exist: https://www.eastdulwichforum.co.uk/topic/92044-home-education-local-group/#comment-954837 You could try contacting this forum member: https://www.eastdulwichforum.co.uk/topic/325368-classroom-support-for-home-education-community/#comment-1621064 Two of these left for right now: https://www.eastdulwichforum.co.uk/events/event/1025-🌟-teens-11-try-painting-sculpture-street-art-at-holiday-workshops/
    • Thanks for your reply. I’ve subscribed to Ancestry a few times in the past but felt I wasn’t using it enough to warrant keeping up the subscription.
    • Hi, I saw your post and just wanted to say that the incident you’re referring to did happen in the late 1980s at Dawson’s Heights. The person involved was named Carl Salawa, and he had just turned 18 years old at the time. Like you, I haven’t been able to find any news articles or official reports about it, If anyone remembers anything more about that time or incident, I’d really appreciate hearing about it. Thanks for sharing what you were told—it means a lot to know others remember.
    • Was anyone else disturbed last night/early hours this morning by the party going on in someone’s garden on Crystal Palace road. Can’t see what house exactly but it’s around number 43 - 41… it was happening quite frequently last year. Seems it’s starting again! Very inconsiderate.
