fancy
After a long and arduous 6 weeks of potty training my almost 3 yr old daughter finally got it, for 2 month she has been clean and dry with the odd forgivable accident day and night. Until 2 weeks ago that is when she has completely lost it for no good reason with emphasis on pooing in her pants which was the initial issue in potty training.Having done the standard google thing there is no good reason for this, no stress in here life, change in circumstances, new baby etc.. Initially, I did get cross with her which she found funny, now I am impartial to it and tell her this is not what big girls do etc and change her and withhold some treats. She is not bothered in the least to be in wet or dirty pants (a tomboy at heart) so that doesn't help and usually the only way I find she has poo'd herself is to pay her bum on a regular basis and feel any 'extra' in there..She remains nappy free at night and clean and dry which makes me think there is some deliberation on her part in what happens in the daytime. Will probably resolve itself in the longrun but any tips/ similar experience in the short term? Saffron
We have the opposite problem. Little Saff is a poo withholder. Sticker chart has been really helpful, with special trea when set no. stickers achieved. Queenie23
My son would never do a poo if he was outside the house, he would only use our toilet so we had many frustrating days with him pooing himself when he could no longer hold it in. The solution which worked for me was taking him to Toys R Us and he feel in love with a toy monkey. I said I would buy it for him once he finally stopped pooing himself. Worked a treat, but then I have to confess my parenting skills do rely on bribery a little too much! Anna M
I gathered on my potty-training learning curve that a regression is part of the normal run of things once the initial glow of having got it is over. And then another regression which is to do with not being bothered further down the line. Just keep going in the same way you have. We used stickers, chocolate, and praise and sticker chart for rewards- everything we could all at once to get it sorted!! Jacks50
I heard a tip recently that if they have a regression then try to get them to clean up the mess when they've had an accident. maybe not the poo but if they've had a wee accident they have to put their pants in the washing basket, etc I suppose the idea is that if they have an accident then they have a small chore to do afterwards which isn't so much fun. I'm not sure if that's a good idea or not but might be worth a try?!
