Kesc
Hello - does anyone have first hand experience of the catchment area for Charter North? I can see on their website the # metres, and I have used google maps to calculate it, and it looks as though the house we are buying is in it by about 100m, BUT - everyone keeps telling me how tiny the catchment area is, so I keep having a panic about it. Of course I know it will change from year to year, and likely to get smaller if Labour bring in the VAT rule on private schools. Grateful if anyone knows whether Melbourne Grove (near junction of East Dulwich Grove) has been in catchment in recent years. Thanks! northernmonkey
There are kids on that stretch of Melbourne Grove who have gone to Charter N in the past and also on Derwent too - but they don't tend to get offers in the first round so it would be wait list movement and very dependent on the individual year - I think that its likely you'd get it but you wouldn't be guaranteed. Charter East would be a cert but North would based on recent years be likely but not guaranteed. You would need a back up you were happy with. ed_pete
Is anyone able to tell me if the distance is measured as a straight line (i.e. aka as the crow flies) or by safest route ? northernmonkey
You'd need to check the admissions criteria for the current year - but a few years ago it was changed to straight line as the crow flies rather than 'walking route'. I don't believe it has been changed from that since but if its relevant to you then check the admissions criteria Link to comment https://www.eastdulwichforum.co.uk/topic/343706-charter-north-catchment/#findComment-1669687 Share on other sites
ed_pete
Cheers - (note to self - must try harder) An independent agency determines the distance using a computerised Geographical Information System (GIS). This system measures the distance from each applicant’s home to the designated main entrance of the school (where the main drive pedestrian entrance joins Red Post Hill opposite Ardbeg Road) by the shortest straight-line distance in metres. A centroid (centre point), derived by Ordnance Survey (OS), determines the start point of the home address. If a child lives in a block of flats where a communal entrance is used, the centroid for the block and not the individual flat is used for calculation purposes. When dealing with multiple applications from a block of flats to the school, lower door numbers will take priority.
