Off West on Wed for 10 days. 2 nights in Hereford then a week in a cottage near St Davids SW Wales.

Hereford - what must sees? Nice restaurant (kid friendly) with a view (river?) for lunch?

St Davids and around? Any special recommendations? (Me, wife and 2 girls - 3 and 9 - going)

Thx

Try cwtch restaurant in st David's, had a very nice meal there two yrs ago.

Cathedral worth looking round

not sure how far you want to travel from st David's but Newport about a 30min drive away, lovely sandy beach (Newport sands), great views, cute village with arty shops and nice cafes, bike riding available too

Preseli hills good too

Check out sunset from strumble head on the coast

Broad Haven has a lovely beach - at low tide you can walk around the headland to Little Haven, and there are caves and rockpools to explore.

Pembroke Castle is worth a visit if you like climbing up lots of walls and towers, and you can also go down a pretty hairy spiral staircase to a massive natural cave that was incorporated into the structure of the castle.

As in cootchie cootchie coo perhaps?

Thanks all for excellent recommendations. Spiral staircase down to cave sounds very Bond villain :)

Hope all of you enjoy a great summer break, a change from "Jocasta thats not your Yakult" scenario, and the traffic and fast pace of life maybe too.

BTW - still looking for fab long lunch venue in/v near Hereford, where kids can play and all can eat, drink and chill.

Thx again

I went to Hereford the day of decimilisation. Also a few months later after Hereford FC had been promoted to the football league for the first time. Both times there was a buzz.

Last time was to Bulmers when they were still an independent cider maker using local apples rather than the bollocks they do now. That was more of a fuzz.

I should imagine that it has changed somewhat in the last 30 years.

    • I would love something like this..I remember the one where Gails is now..It had some bric a brac furniture and 2nd hand clothes, I don't remeber the Oyster bar. The issue with the one on Zenoria St-And I speak as a long time habitué of Portobello, Kensington Market, Alfies,Spitalfields,Covent Garden (back when it had a decent vintage market on Mondays in the 80's and Early 90's) ..Was that a lot of the stuff they sold looked a bit meh..like a bad car boot fair. I also remember when we first moved here a small indoor market on the corner of North X road and Felbrigg rd that had bric a brac and bits of furniture..That one had some good stuff. I think the secret is in having a good mix of stalls selling well curated pieces at decent prices...It would also be good to have a few tables and rails available to rent for one-off sellers (car boot style) by application. When I lived in Notting Hill I used to do Portobello under the flyover a couple of times a year and made really decent money because people tended to go there on sundays for the Casual stallholders rather the same dealers selling the same stuff.
