Picture framers!

Hello All,

It's Simon from the Arterie picture framers. I'm back operating from 83 Pellatt Road. Some will know me from my 34 years at North Cross Road. Looking forward to seeing old friends and making new ones .

At 377 Lordship Lane? It's unusual - every eighteen months or so there will be some work done, and then nothing happens. I passed by last week and the door was open - it seems to be decorated in the style of a western saloon, there were bottles of booze on the shelves, and tradies doing something again.

What about the place next to EDT? All seems to have stopped

It was meant to be part of the edt some sort of coffee diner icecream business. All work stopped back in the summer.after edt and other pubs belonging to the same company went into administration

Taylor’s Greengrocers to open at 43 Dulwich Village

Popular Maltby Street greengrocer arrives in the New Year. Good news for the village which doesn't have much choice for groceries!

That's good news. I saw that DVillage is also being renovated. Now the pavement in front is wider and flatter with the recent works, they'll have a nice setup indoors and outdoors.

We went there late November/early December. Very pricy, we had the lunch special which price wise was not too bad, very small glass of coffee £6 50. Hubby paid bill and said he should have challenged it as one small pot of Jasmine tea was £7 for the 2 of us.

I'm sorry to see another chain opening up in the form of Holland and Barratt a couple of doors up from SMBS.  That will be another unfair pressure on SMBS .  I really hope people continue to support SMBS and its relative shop The Cheese Block under huge pressure with the arrival of Mons and Bora.  These are two of the oldest surviving (30 years plus?) green grocers, deli and unusual ingredient food shops in Lordship Lane and made it an interesting high street long before the chains and  newbies moved in.  I would think Healthmatters is none too happy either 😕

Support your local independent store or Lordship Lane will get really dull

Gusto Italiano (cosy cafe on Half Moon Lane, opp Judith Kerr Primary and next to Kens Fish Bar) has a nice new front deck in addition to its pretty little back garden now - will be great in the brighter weather ahead.

West 16th next door has a stylist indoor area too.

They're both worth a visit.

Thought I’d take a trip down to Rye Lane this morning to visit the charity shops etc. I usually park in the Morrisons car park and buy stuff there and then the nearby shops. I know there are a few shops near the Aylesham centre that are having to close but I was shocked to see the extent of shop closures, graffiti, overall decline in the area.

Sometimes I get the bus and wanted to visit the Crises charity shop but it didn’t open until 10.30am and it had a coffee place inside. They have a shop in Rye Lane but are missing out on early rising customers.

Walking down towards Santendar and the Primark store was very empty.Just hope that isn’t due for closure.

The Scope charity shop has a prime position but doesn’t promote the shop

Greggs have done away with their self service due to the number of thefts of food items.

The Poundland was quite empty too but I visit this one as they have stock since the Camberwell one closed down.

    • Personally I feel its a shame for the tree. The bridge looks pretty badly damaged-I just hope it does'nt mean the entrance from Dulwich Common/Lordship Lane will be closed for ages while they fix it.
    • This is such a shame for the bridge.  I wonder if anyone saw it fall, and when it was (at night?) Is the walking path through the woods still accessible?
    • Free range chickens &/ organic whole chickens are around £15-20 retail these days…  Given their credentials in hospitality etc I’d assume Norbert’s has sourced decent quality chicken, wholesale. The fact they aren’t saying anything about that on the menu or website seems strange…  if it were true it would help justify the price. Chicken & 2 x Chips - would work out £10.50 a head between 4… not bad if it’s decent quality chicken and seasoned well with care & skill
    • I have no lawn but still trying to get wild flowers to germinate. After a couple of years sowing seeds I've finally managed to produce some ox eye daisies. Still trying to succeed with cornflowers, vipers bugloss to name but a few. A couple of foxgloves are coming up. Its a gradual process for which we need lots of patience. Don't forget after No Mow May it's Let it Bloom June.
