Ton is 2240 lb

Next one: Charger -> Horse

Statue of King Charles on a charger predates either CIII or phone/ laptop chargers

Many years ago I was looking round some stately home or other, and there was a mounted horse's head (if memory serves, on one side of a fireplace) and its tail mounted on the other side.

I made some comment about this horse to my then partner, upon which someone behind me with a fraightfully  posh voice said "That's not a horse! That's the Duke of Wellington's charger!"

🤣🤣🤣

I remember halfpennies. Farthings had gone by my time.

2/6 (half a crown) that looked very similar to 2s.

I remember farthings. And threepenny bits

I used to buy balls of wool at a shop in Streatham for sixpence three farthings.

    • So what is the issue? You want compensation for the loss of value, or you want to expedite the matter?
    • No. What happened? I actually thought, considering it was what we used to call Guy Fawkes Day last night, the loud noises from  fireworks ended remarkably early. About 9pm? Maybe I just fell asleep and didn't hear any later ones. Do people actually burn Guys any more? Apart from at places like Lewes, where I believe they still have Bonfire Societies and burn effigies of various political figures etc.
    • The accompaniment to our "Christmas Pudding" aka Nothing-Whatever-Like-A- Christmas-Pudding last year  at The Cherry Tree was "brandy butter ice-cream." If it had ever been near any brandy, the brandy must have been waved in its direction from a very great distance. Same with butter. The ice cream tasted like bog standard "vanilla" from a catering tub. At least it did bear some resemblance to ice cream. Whereas the "Christmas Pudding" bore no resemblance whatever to any Christmas Pudding I have ever seen or tasted in my many  decades of seeing and tasting Christmas Puddings. Oh, and Cinzano Bianco. Bleurgh. My sister used to drink that. 🤢
