I don't know if you have had fish & chips from the new fish shop in lordship lane. East dulwich. Called Joseph's. Well my and my wife went there the other day we had rock & chips. The chips was lovely but the fish was well over cooked and very greesy. I just could not eat the fish the batter was realy hard and the fish just taste like rope and dry. My wife's fish was just the same   but the batter on her one was harder . This was the first time I've been there and it will be  the last time.sorry this shop is not worth The prices they charge for their produce. I paid £ 29.90 for this load of crap.

I am amazed.  Josephs is not new, it has been there about 3 years?  I have had fish and chips from there a few times and rate their fish as some of the best I have ever had from a fish and chip shop.  Chips are great as well,  The portions are enormous and great value.

You joined the forum two hours ago specifically to post this?

I haven't been there, but I have only previously read good things about Joseph's on here.

I'm also wondering if you took up your complaint with the shop.

If so, what did they say?

If not, why not? Especially given that you had paid nearly thirty pounds, it would seem the obvious thing to do, to ask for a replacement or your money back?

So... what happened when you expressed your disgruntlement directly to the establishment?

As everyone has stated, Josephs might be expensive but in terms of sizing and quality, never had a bad meal from them. In fact they are so generous with their food that we order 2 fish and one portion of chips as servings are very large. Ordered food from them last week and got usual good quality stuff.

Rock’ is only dog fish. Most anglers throw them back

And dog fish is actually a small shark species. Very different taste and texture to the cod family.

If you'd been expecting cod then the rock would have been disappointing. But it is what it is.

Is it just me or is the title of this thread weird?    Not a good sign when the subject heading is not clear.  Is this  a decline in our use of the English language?  A thread in it's own right.

Reminds me of the Badwolf line running through the Dr Who's of Ecclestone  and Tenant.  Perhaps Rose in the parallel universe can understand what badfish is and save our world.

Not a good sign when it's is used instead of its, malumbu.

Its! It's its! Not it's 🤣

Definite sign of decline there

😛

Sorry admin, as you were. I notice the OP has not posted again in response to any of the comments

    • There's probably a bigger discussion on why we celebrate Christmas (pagan/religious festival) and why everything has to shut down.  I've enjoyed Xmas days in Spain, Mexico and France where some businesses and restaurants are open, and in a number of non-Christrian countries.  In both sets of occasions it has been festive, but not over the top and the Spanish seem to have a more relaxed attitude in a country where the church is probably more important than the UK.  A Lounge conversation.  I'll no doubt be popping into the Forest Hill Road supermarket on Xmas day for things we have forgotten, with many others in a similar situation who grew up in the Christian faith (I've long since been an atheist).
    • Would anyone have ends of balls of wool, any colour, to mend an old blanket? Any colour? With thanks Mila
    • I’m not a Gail’s fan but there’s no reason a business shouldn’t open on Christmas Day. However, nobody should be compelled to work the day which, given the widespread coverage of Gail’s questionable employment practices, has to be a possibility here.  The only business I ever use on the 25th is maybe a pub and that’s a rarity these days but buses running would be very welcome for visiting etc. But the swings in the park should definitely remain chained up. Are parks even open on Christmas Day?
    • To be honest, pal, it's not good being a fan of a local business and then not go there. One on hand, the barber shop literally next door to Romeo Jones started serving coffee. The Crown and Greyhound and Rocca serve coffee. Redemption Coffee opened up not far away, and then also Megan's next door to that. DVillage was serving coffee (but wasn't very popular), as was Au Ciel (which is). Maybe also Heritage Cheese, I don't know. There's also Flotsam and Jetsam doing coffee and sandwiches at Dulwich Picture Gallery in the other direction. The whole of Dulwich Village serves coffee. And yet on the other hand, there are enough punters to support all good coffee shops. With the exception of Rocca and Megan's (which are both big spaces) and C&G (which does coffee like everything else - slow and with bad service), all these places regularly get queues out the door. Gail's often has big queues and yet very few people crossed the street to Romeo Jones (which was much better)... Half the staff at Gail's are perfectly fine and efficient. The other half are pretty offhand and rude. It's certainly not welcoming or friendly service. But they're certainly hard working, and no doubt raking the money in for Luke Johnson...
