  1. Used 15-20 times during Covid when pools were closed. A barely perceptible mark on the front per photo. Otherwise as good as new as far as I can tell. 'Exo-series advance performance' model. Closest bus stop North Cross Road
  2. "It won't make any difference"/"They're all just as bad as each other" seems to be a widespread Tufton Street line on social media. I think the idea is that low turnout will mitigate Conservative losses.
  3. When I went (a while ago) the food was good but they weren't v good at guiding us on how much food and/or what would be a good balance of dishes.
  4. Everyone just hypes their area. You need to find someone who has moved away from the area, or owns houses in all these areas(!), for an unbiased view. FWIW there are loads of families living on the smarter roads off Lordship Lane and plenty of 1,800 sq ft after side-return/loft-conversion with kids in the private and state primaries/secondaries. If you want 1,800sq ft before conversion with big garden then you are better off looking at WD, Village or the area near Aquarius Golf Club (Marmora Road etc). If your kids are at private schools you have plenty of options.
  5. Wouldn't it be better to have a stall at North Cross Road market with a board explaining what they do rather than obstructing the pavement by "explaining" to people what they do one by one?
  6. Who are the people who try to ambush you on Lordship Lane at the end of North Cross Road? I never make eye contact and charge through. There seemed to be a load of police hovering around them yesterday afternoon but possibly unconnected.
  7. There is a planning application to put a mobile phone mast at the top of Dog Kennel Hill. Residents of Camberwell Grove and their friends in the Camberwell Society are fighting it - defacing their nice conservation area with ugly laminated posters! They do not benefit from it as reception is fine on their side of the hill. https://planning.southwark.gov.uk/online-applications/applicationDetails.do?activeTab=makeComment&keyVal=S9IKT2KBN1200 I do not think there are any health hazards from being near phone masts (or at least they are negligible relative to everyday risks we all face). Anyway, here is what the NHS has to say about them: https://111.wales.nhs.uk/encyclopaedia/m/article/mobilephonesafety/#Risks I imagine this will spark some lively debate!
  8. Our household has Vodafone, EE and O2 phones for work and leisure. We have found O2 have by far the worst customer service (they seem to actively try to time you out and reply just before the OFCOM deadlock 8 week deadline hits and their call centre seems to just disconnect you at random - possibly because some staff are located in South Africa and they unreliable electricity?). O2 are also the most complained about per subscriber on the OFCOM website.
  9. If you have ever worked in a pro kitchen or even if you haven't.... https://www.ecatering.co.uk/collections/gn-pans
  10. I have managed to make 1kg of kimchi (1 cabbage-worth) from ingredients entirely sourced on Lordship Lane. SMBS sells Chinese/Napa cabbage, gochukaru and shrimp paste. Organic Village sells only Chinese cabbage and shrimp paste (similar price to SMBS for these ingredients). I did also look in Bora Bora but no joy there. The cost for all the ingredients (beyond just the three above) was £6.60. 1kg of ready-made Vadasz kimchi from Sainsburys would be £11.25 and is much less tasty. The main expense was the Chinese Cabbage £2.50(!) and 33g of gochukaru £2(!). 250g of shrimp paste was £4 from SMBS but you only use a tiny amount so that would last for a long time. The next most expensive ingredient was fish sauce - I used about 50p's-worth. You could save a lot by using a different type of cabbage but I like it best with Napa. If you are vegetarian you wouldn't use the fish sauce or shrimp paste (the ready-made Vadasz is veggie so maybe it's not a fair comparison). I suspect you could also save a lot by going to a Chinese supermarket in Peckham or Walworth but I am happy to support a local business. I imagine the rents on Lordship Lane are not trivial. I recommend buying a GN pan to do the cabbage-massaging without making a mess. I imagine somewhere like AJ Farmer sells these but I already had one so didn't look. I know for sure that AJ Farmer sells Kilner Jars and muslin for the fermenting.
  11. Trying to save money (and the environment) by making my own Kimchi. Is there anywhere in East Dulwich I can buy the chilli flakes? (probably need somewhere that does the shrimp paste too!)
  12. The Vodafone map is misleading because there is practically no Vodafone coverage on Ivanhoe Road
  13. I recently moved house within Southwark and to my joy, according to the cyclehoop bike hangar website there was a space just outside my new house. I currently have a hangar space outside my old house. After nothing happening for two weeks I rang cyclehoop this morning. They tell me they no longer have a contract with Southwark so the availability on their website is not longer up to date. They are waiting to transfer the database to Southwark but nothing has happened yet. Anyone else know what the plan is? All cyclehoop gave me was the [email protected] address. I can't really give up my old hangar (for which there is a long waiting list) until a new one becomes available, so everybody loses.
  14. Just a warning that Strakers Road in the middle of Peckham Rye is no longer free parking on a Sunday. Nice to sneakily change the small signs without anything more prominent. Thanks Southwark Council
  15. sorry for the dupe - thought the original had not got through

  18. Sadly cases like this are not unusual. It can take a long time for building defects to emerge by which time those accountable can wriggle out of liability. Building control and planning are a awful compared to other Northern European countries and the scheme that should indemnify the victims is riddled with conflicts of interest. The industry joke is that NHBC stands for Never Have Believed a Claim. We have an asset class - residential property - underwritten by the government and massively undertaxed (again relative to other Northern European countries). This causes a huge misallocation of capital and is almost certainly one of the reasons why UK productivity lags so badly compared to our peers. To add insult to injury the quality of this asset class is terrible. What tax there is, stamp duty, is a distortionary tax on labour mobility.
  19. sorry wrong section argh and the link is wrong - did it too quickly sorry!
  20. 150cm x 70cm Few little nicks in the varnish, but otherwise fine. [photos.app.goo.gl] SE5 8PF for collection
  21. I'd be grateful if people could recommend places around SE London that would be good for 30-40 people at a 70th birthday party, especially if you have done something like this yourself. Good food, a bar and a fairly open space. I'm thinking places like upstairs at the Crooked Well or Camberwell Arms, but more Dulwich way (although I'm not limited to Dulwich). Many thanks!
