For several weeks now I have heard a dog(s)barking and whining as if in distress. It sounds as if its coming from the corner of Dunstans Road/ Balchier Street. This is not a nice sound to be listening to when trying to get to sleep as it makes me worry for the dog(s).

Can anybody help discover who the dogs belong to and if they are in pain.

Thanks

I'd recommend going round to try to see whoever owns the dog, if possible try to see the dog so you can see what conditon it's in.It could be that the owners are going out in the evening and not aware of what their dog is doing. Failing that you could try the immediate neighbours.

In my experience it is not that easy to get the RSPCA involved. If you cannot see the dog and it is on domestic premises they won't attend.

Southwark noise will simply attend your property and take noise measurements- only if the sound exceeds so many decibels will they take action.

I really hope you can talk sense into the owners because a dog that is barking and crying for hours on end is suffering immensely.

Thank you fat cats and first mate for your responses. I will try to investigate further. However I only hear the dog in this statein the evening and being unable to get out then due to sleeping little ones I'm not sure what I can do. I will ask neighbours though.

It was interesting reading the older threads , so thankyou.

I just hope the dogs haven't been stolen or are suffering.

    • Thanks penguin  always wondered about that place and that’s way more info than I ever thought I would get  (used to live above a gun nut on friern road - he would tell me nothing)
    • There was a Saturday afternoon crowd of enthusiasts, and at other times the owner might have been off acquiring stock. He also repaired air guns, which he also sold. He stocked edged weapons, uniforms, including antique uniforms, air guns and ammo and starting pistols and shot. Some medals and other militaria. Quite a lot of ex service chit chat on a Saturday. I had an amateur interest, didn't deal a lot, in English pattern swords and other mainly 19th century militaria. And made some good purchases there. I'm afraid WWII and later events was the major focus of most of the regulars.
    • Did anyone actually venture in to that place? I recall it always being closed/very uninviting!
