east-of-the-Rye
We need to replaster the two walls of our top, back room. It's a single brick thick Victorian house, and a few years ago rain came through the walls and the plaster has blown. We've had the outside repointed since then. I'd like to get insulation retro-fitted to the internal walls before the replastering but local builders I've spoken to seem surprised that we'd want insulation added. Can you suggest any contractors in the south London area who are able to retro-fit insulation to a Victorian house? We have the money to pay and aren't reliant on grants but I'm reluctant to use a builder who isn't used to doing this. Any recommendations from someone who has had it done, or from a contractor who has done this (and is able to provide references?) sebastiondangerfield
Hi, it’s a family business, plenty of references available for work carried out in the area. What you want is insulated plasterboards dot and dabbed onto the walls with some mechanical fixings and then skim coat plastered. No drama. tiddles
Why not ask experienced plasterers for their recommendations- both mickey lawless and Aaron are highly recommended on here (do a quick search on here) - for info I have used both Link to comment https://www.eastdulwichforum.co.uk/topic/354343-retro-fitting-of-insulation-to-internal-walls-of-victorian-brick-house/#findComment-1688480 Share on other sites
ed_pete
I suggest that you have a watch of this guy. This is a DIY channel but I’m not suggesting that’s what you do but it’s a good reference. According to Charlie’s, dot and dab is not the answer. https://charliediyte.co.uk/blog/blog/the-best-wall-insulation-for-old-properties Link to comment https://www.eastdulwichforum.co.uk/topic/354343-retro-fitting-of-insulation-to-internal-walls-of-victorian-brick-house/#findComment-1688487 Share on other sites
