natalee54
Hello, I'm looking for some advice please. I have an old TV, which I have tried to rehome, but no-one seems to want it, fair, as it's not a smart tv. But I'm now looking at how to dispose of it? I've contacted a charity to collect but they haven't got back to me. It's too big for the WEE recycling bins and I don't have a car to get to the tip with it. Southwark want £35 to collect it, which seems very extreme. Does anyone have another suggestion that I haven't thought of please? Many Thanks, Natalie Link to comment https://www.eastdulwichforum.co.uk/topic/355490-disposal-of-old-tv/ Share on other sites
malumbu
I've got one to get rid of, its digital but not smart so hoped that someone would like it for a PlayStation. I assume you tried to give it away through this site. Otherwise it will have to be disposed of properly, perhaps a neighbour is going to a tip, where there will be a facility there. I think most boroughs you don't have to pay if you bring it over. If you have a street WhatsApp that may help Link to comment https://www.eastdulwichforum.co.uk/topic/355490-disposal-of-old-tv/#findComment-1691135 Share on other sites
natalee54
Hello malumbu, I have tried to get rid of it through this site too. I thought the same that it might be ok for a kids room, to watch dvd's or something. But apparently not. I also listed it on the facebook group of the estate I live on. I don't have to pay if I take it to the tip myself no. But I cant physically get it there on buses and trains. I'm fairly fit, but its just not feasible. I'm not sure if there is a whatsapp group for my street, or how I'd even go about finding one. Thanks though! jazzer
Can I suggest offering it for free on Gumtree. Link to comment https://www.eastdulwichforum.co.uk/topic/355490-disposal-of-old-tv/#findComment-1691139 Share on other sites
natalee54
Thanks Jazzer. I will give gumtree a go. I wasn't asking for any money on the other sites I've advertised it on. But hadn't thought of gumtree. Thanks. Link to comment https://www.eastdulwichforum.co.uk/topic/355490-disposal-of-old-tv/#findComment-1691141 Share on other sites
MrsR
Try Freecycle Link to comment https://www.eastdulwichforum.co.uk/topic/355490-disposal-of-old-tv/#findComment-1691147 Share on other sites
malumbu
Yes recommend freecycle too. I hate Gumtree as that is where a lot of stolen bikes are fenced. Including one of mine. march46
The ‘Our Bike’ community cargo bike might be an option, especially if you have some other shopping to do nearby on the Old Kent Rd. You can hire the bike by the hour, and there are two available in East Dulwich. https://ourbike.co.uk/ Edited December 18, 2024 by march46 Link to comment https://www.eastdulwichforum.co.uk/topic/355490-disposal-of-old-tv/#findComment-1691181 Share on other sites
natalee54
Thanks all. Looks like Gumtree might be the winner. If the person shows up! I appreciate everyone's suggestions. I honestly didn't think Gumtree or freecycle were really a thing anymore. Thanks. Festive wishes. 2 Link to comment https://www.eastdulwichforum.co.uk/topic/355490-disposal-of-old-tv/#findComment-1691191 Share on other sites
Alec1
If you still aren't able to find a new owner by the weekend, I will take to the recycling centre for you. I have to go past it either Saturday or Sunday, so would happily detour. 4 Link to comment https://www.eastdulwichforum.co.uk/topic/355490-disposal-of-old-tv/#findComment-1691217 Share on other sites

natalee54
Wow Alec1, that's super generous of you. Thankyou! This morning the TV has been rehomed, with someone who can use it further. So I'm very happy. Thankyou though! 3 Link to comment https://www.eastdulwichforum.co.uk/topic/355490-disposal-of-old-tv/#findComment-1691235 Share on other sites
