A spilt glass of water beside my laptop cost me over £850.  The guys at the Apple Store Genius Bar said it could be repaired for £850 before VAT.  John Lewis had a Black Friday upgrade for less.  Any suggestions about what to do with my dead MacBook Air?  They showed me a photo of tiny bubbles on the inside below the keys.  Does anyone know of a charity which can use the parts, or even replace them to make it good enough to donate?

Try giving  Christian at Netquest Consulting a call before you give up on it.

I'm not sure if he still does repairs, as I gather he has left his previous premises in Pellatt Road and it isn't mentioned on his website any more, but worth a try?

Also, I once spilled a glass of wine over a laptop and gave it to someone because I thought it was dead. It certainly seemed to be.

A long time after, I discovered that the laptop had miraculously recovered! This was a bit annoying as it wasn't actually mine, and I had had to replace it (my own fault, obviously).

    • Steve used to joke that my old VW Golf kept them in business. I've got a more reliable car now so maybe that's why they are closing. Sad day.
    • Is Dell Autos closing down completely or just moving? For whatever it's worth, for MOTs I've had good recent experience with The Test Centre in Deptford. They only do MOTs so they don't have any particular incentive to fail you and they usually have same day appointments. Open 7 days a week and late. https://www.thetestcentre.co.uk/our-test-centres/deptford-branch/ Obviously you would still need a "normal" garage to do servicing and repairs etc.
    • So what is the issue? You want compensation for the loss of value, or you want to expedite the matter?
    • No. What happened? I actually thought, considering it was what we used to call Guy Fawkes Day last night, the loud noises from  fireworks ended remarkably early. About 9pm? Maybe I just fell asleep and didn't hear any later ones. Do people actually burn Guys any more? Apart from at places like Lewes, where I believe they still have Bonfire Societies and burn effigies of various political figures etc.
