Traditional African clothing?

I am keen to find out where I can buy the beautiful skirts, tops and dresses that I see African ladies wearing, I really I would like to buy them off the peg rather than having them made to measure.

Any ideas?

Failing that, any good local-ish trad African dressmakers???

Go to Rye lane - there are plenty of shops that sell all sorts of African fabrics - both printed and lacy. i got soem lovely black and white African printed material for ?10 - enought to make some great cushion covers and a duvet cover.

I think there is a dress makers on Peckham high street not far from the library.

Oops noticed you pelase for ready to wear rather than made to emasure - not sure about that but have a nose around the shops in Peckham and ask - however i think many of the ladies get their stuff made for them - which is why it probably looks so elelgant.

Have a look at Sika Designs - they have an online boutique and a shop in Greenwich. The fabric they use is gorgeous and comes from Ghana. There's also a shop in Brixton Market Arcade which has a range of clothes and sometimes stocks dresses from Sierra Leone.
