  1. Can anyone recommend a builder to open up a back addition with a box steel frame and put in sliding doors?
  2. Totally agree. Totally agree
  3. I went to the meeting at Christ Church on Monday 17 July for the so called 'consultation' about the introduction of a CPZ area for Dulwich Hill. It was a complete whitewash because the Council has already decided to introduce it. Most people in the meeting were totally opposed to the idea. It is yet another attack on people in a cost of living crisis. It is another way for the Council to raise money. We need to organise our opposition across the borough. Where is the mandate for this decision? I thought the Council/politicians are voted in to work on our behalf, not just impose their will. How will those on a state pension be able to afford the £240 pa to park their car? The Councillor who led the meeting made a gob stopping comment when he said that Dulwich Hill residents were not exactly poor, a sweeping comment if ever there was one. We need a borough wide campaign otherwise they will pick us off ward by ward. Is there a cross borough petition to oppose these CPZ's? We need one urgently.
  4. I am looking for someone who can repair my electric oven apart from the spin doctor. Anyone have a recommendation?
  5. Anyone wanting to fit blinds to their house wont go wrong with Bespoke Finishing Touches based in Charlton Village. Their address is 26 The Village SE7 8UD. Tel 0208 319 2222. Not only do they have a wide choice of different blinds, they are excellent fitters as well. Ask for Tony to do the fitting. If you need the blinds fixed in anyway after they have been fitted then they come out straight away. Highly recommended, I have used them many times.
  6. Yes I can recommend Progas, installed new boiler and some new radiators recently, did a really good job, know what they are doing, very reliable.
  7. Very pleased with top signal service, came out very quickly to a block of flats and fixed the communal dish. Very polite and helpful. Highly recommended.
  8. Can anyone recommend someone who does fascia and soffit work? Need to replace mine as wood is rotting and I want to use UPVC replacement.
  9. Paul is a really good florist at the top of Lordship Lane near to the old Grove Tarvern, now derelict. Does click and collect. Good prices. 0208 693 3332
  10. Noticed that the assistants in William Rose are now all wearing masks, must be because of the Covid outbreak they had. They only now allow 2 customers into the shop, but that is still a tight squeeze. The butchers in Duwlich village only allow 1 customer at a time. A few people still not wearing masks going into William Rose.
  11. I see William Rose is shut until Tuesday 22 December 'due to staff shortages' I wonder if this is due to Covid. I am not happy that they allow 3 people into the shop at a time in such a small squeezed space. Also I rarely see the shop assistants themselves wearing masks. I thought all shop assistants now had to wear masks?
  12. Does anyone know how I get a new brown bin as mine is broken. Thanks.
  13. I have used Hamish in the past but he is very difficult to get hold of. Just recently I have been using Tim Doidge at Sakura Tree Services, really good and very reasonable, in fact cheaper than Hamish! His number is 07958 553219. Also [email protected]
  14. I have used the spin doctor three times and I would thoroughly recommend him.
  15. I would completely agree with the post by tomdhu on this.
  16. I have had a terrible experience with Classic Lofts as the neighbour of someone who has just had their loft done. I would agree with the post that says they are a bunch of cowboys. As they built up the party wall between the two properties they trampled all over my flat roof without putting any protection down, even though this was spelt out in the Party Wall Agreement. They then managed to break a load of my slates on the sloping roof and then to top it all they completely bodged the repair to the slates which I now will have to get fixed myself. My advice is steer well clear.
  17. I have a son at Harris boys and he has been very happy there. It is a safe and secure school and there are many talented and hard working members of staff. There has been quite a high turnover of staff, but I do not have too much of a problem with that provided the new teachers are dedicated and go the extra mile. The new Head is definitely moving the school in the right direction. He has worked on the basics ie establishing a working environment where teachers can teach and students can learn. He is now working on the curriculum to ensure that boys of all abilities can reach their potential.
  18. Have a look at Sika Designs - they have an online boutique and a shop in Greenwich. The fabric they use is gorgeous and comes from Ghana. There's also a shop in Brixton Market Arcade which has a range of clothes and sometimes stocks dresses from Sierra Leone.
  19. Can anyone recommend a woodworm specialist?
  20. We recently used Tudor Touch for shutters in our Victorian mid-terrace house. They are a family firm based in Charlton Village. They were very professional and spent time with us discussing exactly what we wanted. We are delighted with the results and have had lots of compliments from friends and neighbours.
  21. EDMummy - We asked ourselves similar questions back in September prior to visiting Harris Boys ED and other local secondary schools with our Y6 child. We put in a request to the school to observe a number of top set classes in the core subjects. We were impressed with the quality of teaching and learning taking place at Harris Boys ED and felt that it was far superior to much of what we had observed at the more 'popular' local schools. Like BB100 we felt the Ofsted Report was an accurate reflection of what we saw. We also embraced the ethos of achievement for all students and felt fortunate that we could protect our child from the lottery or full and half-scholarship debacle. We put Harris Boys ED at the top of our preference list. Our child was delighted to be offered a place there last Thursday; an outstanding school just 10 minutes walk away. He is joining along with a small cohort of charming, bright and motivated primary school friends. I'm sure that this September he'll have the opportunity to meet many more.

    Rocca

Very disappointed with Rocca, pizza's were soggy, perhaps this is not surprising given that they are precooked somewhere else and then the toppings just added and heated up in the albeit wood fired oven. Shame that they have cut corners like this, cant imagine the Italians putting up with such second rate pizzas so why should we. Pizzas in Italy are thin and crispy, not wet and soggy. They need to use proper pizza dough made on the premises, not spelt flour mass produced in a factory unit in Vauxhall then shipped over to the restaurant. Reminds me of that other food imposter/poseur Gordon Ramsey and his so called gastro pub food being mass produced in a warehouse somewhere in South Wales. Why do we still have to pay through the nose for sub standard food, I am surprised people still put up with it.
