Hi,just wanted to ask what everyone does in regard to putting names into clothing and things like bags/beakers etc for preschool? My son starts in September at one of the local schools and will have a uniform. Did you just get sew in material labels for the clothes and stick name labels on the items? They sell the labels quite cheaply on amazon so was thinking of getting a bulk load although realistically I think we only need a few. Are you meant to go label crazy? No panic, just wondered.

If you are going to buy labels with his name on for sewing or ironing or sticking then buy loads. They don't have an expiry date and he is going to be in formal education until he is 18 and will need plenty over the coming years. My eldest is 12 and we are into our third packet of 100 with her - mainly because of 3 school residential trips and for those I named everything. At pre-school I would recommend naming the items they are likely to take off so prob just shoes / jumper and anything non-wearable you are sending in with them such as bag, beaker etc.

As they move to primary and start to do PE then name everything they take off for getting changed into their PE kit and of course the whole PE kit itself.

I use the iron on ones. There is a knack to getting it right, some come off straight away and others I have battled with for ages to remove when giving the clothing away in later years. They can also come off in the wash but no probs to put another on. Just keep the packet of labels somewhere you will remember.

Someone posted on here the other week re how she had found someone to sew labels on for her.

Also there are the laundry markers.

I diligently ironed on loads of labels when my son started nursery, but they didn't seem to last very long before partly or completely coming off. Also, they grow out of clothes so quickly, and I used to forget to iron them on new purchases. Now I use a laundry pen and keep it by front door in case I need to write his name on anything as we rush out of the door in the morning. It's quicker and cheaper than the labels, lasts longer and can be used on clothes, bottles etc, plus any toys or books that he decides he simply cannot leave the house without at that precise moment. I also read someone on here saying only to write the surname on if you intend to pass clothes on to siblings, so I do that now that I have another boy on the way.

    • Yes, I did mention the train, which I now get from East Dulwich to Guys instead of the 40. Depends where in East Dulwich you are starting from which route is easiest! I think it is probably lack of staff rather than lack of hospitals which is the problem?
    • What can be done? How about reporting it to the police?
    • I can also strongly recommend Lukasz after he completed some floorboard repairs and some complex repairs to skirting damaged through dog chews. He is responsive, punctual, reasonably priced, detail-oriented and his work is to a very high standard.
    • Really? Yes you are probably right as I know from personal experience with Guys… as I claiming travel costs back, that no one told me I could claim! Left hand does not know what right hand is doing regarding admin..  If they charged people for wasting overstretched staff in A& E as in not urgent just might deter people from wasting precious time…. But then you need interpreters, to explain if language is a barrier and admin staff to administer..  Correct me if I am wrong but is there not a train from Denmark Hill or East Dulwich which goes to London Bridge? Would be faster than 2 buses I would have thought.    Oh, forgot about Tessa Jowell but thought you needed GP referral in which case, that would be the place to go rather than a bigger hospital. Know there is one in Beckenham and you can call and they will give you an idea as to wait time…..same I hope at TJ…assuming they answer phone.. If one really things about it…too many  people in London for example and to few hospitals…
