Admin note - This is the yearly discussion thread for new shops coming to East Dulwich and nearby. You can find the links to the previous years below:

To start us off, there is a new Deli called Chili & Garlic opening up next to Gails on Zenoria St.

Website: https://www.chilliandgarlic.co.uk/

Instagram: https://www.instagram.com/chilliandgarlicdeli?

There is a menu on the website and it appears to sell wraps, bowls and fruit juices.

The opening is not yet announced, but probably soon.

There is a new 'sauna and arts social club' opened up in Arch 842, next to Bronzewood Metal Works off Consort Road Sauna Social Club | Sauna and Arts | Peckham, London, UK

Also, probably not new, but new to me Banook Bagels | South London Bagel - Order Online

Perhaps the question to ask is why businesses are closing there, rather than "what's next?"

I'm sorry to hear that it has closed, but Grove Vale wouldn't immediately  spring to mind as the ideal location  for a shop (?gallery?)  solely selling ceramics.

Plus you had to go in and ask to find out the price of anything, which was a bit off-putting (well, it put me off asking again after my  first sharp intake of breath 🤣 )

Perhaps they overestimated the effect of gentrification?

I liked the shop but felt put off having to ask the price of things..I think it would do better in Dulwich Village.

It was'nt in a location I would immediately think of if wanting to spend £100 upwards on a decorative item for a shelf.

Love Dulwich  must be included.

Another lovely meal, freshly cooked.

Use to always support other places on the lane but quite a few of them din’t reach even the basic mark of freshly cooked food.

Guess will  see the likes of Megans closing - staff retention is zero & cooks change regularly. Hate chains, but that is personal.

Hopefully Jonnies will remain - since people who use them, have been using them for  years and generations.

@beansprout I'd be very happy to see the back of 'Megans on the lordship' or whatever its called The food is grim (nice on the menu the reality is awful) dreadful muzak and all round pretty dreadful.

I'd much rather see punters spending their money in places like Love Dulwich,Kanella,Johnnies and so on.

Holland & Barrett seem to be opening news shops in several places. They are opening a big shop on Clapham High Street, where the post office recently closed. Also on Oxford Street.  So a big expansion programme perhaps.

They already have one shop on Oxford Street. If memory serves it's at the Tottenham Court Road end.

Where is the new one going to be?

Jojo Maman Bebe is closing soon. A staff member said they don't know what will replace it, but it will be something falling under the planning category of food and drink.

More food and drink places?

mind you..prefrable to a nail bar facial asthetics or estate agent I guess.

    • Yes..that may be the case but membership STARTING at £115 a month is still unafforable for many. Council gyms also have a large range of equipment and I had a  PT at Dulwich leisure centre when I was in Full Time employment who was incredible and even kept in contact during lockdown giving me a program I could do at home and checking in weekly at no charge or personal gain for herself. I dont doubt that Fit For may be a good gym (Its been in situ long enough so must be doing something right) However the cost of membership means it is affordable for the few not the many. If I could afford that kind of fee I would rather get a train to Canary Wharf and go to Virgin active where theres a pool and incredible classes and facilities
    • We found a red TREK bike yesterday that had clearly been stolen and dumped. Would love to reunite it with its owner. Get in touch if you know whose it is.
    • Hey, I am interested. I had started a club last year however everyone slowly dropped off but I am always up for morning runs and some evening runs too.
