It’s a bit like the buses, you wonder where one is, wait for ever, then 4 arrive together. Here are the 4 rides for the next two weeks, Feb 22nd and March 1st. Feb 22nd, Ride 1. London Bridge to Buckingham Palace < https://www.eventbrite.co.uk/e/london-bridge-to-buckingham-palace-tickets-1251673742859 > Simon K leading one of our regular routes round the tourist hotspots. Start 10am, Southwark Needle, south side of London Bridge, near London Bridge Station. Route: London Bridge / Cannon Street / Queen Street / Cycleway 3 / Westminster Bridge/ past Big Ben/ Parliament Sq / Buckingham Palace. Return down The Mall / Horse Guards/ Parliament Sq and on to London Bridge. Probable coffee stop near Birdcage Walk. Easy about 8 mile ride. Nearly all protected lanes or cycleways, flat except for slight upgrades to the bridges. Back by 12.30. Feb 22nd. Ride 2, Parliament Hill from London Bridge < https://www.eventbrite.co.uk/e/london-bridge-to-parliament-hill-tickets-1251664294599 > Start 9.30 am (Note earlier start time), Southwark Gateway Needle, south side of London Bridge, near London Bridge Station. Jamie leading this 13 mile ride and aiming to get back around 1.30pm. Route outward via Kings Cross, return through Regents Park. Everyone welcome. March 1st. Ride 1. Cutty Sark to Belmarsh Prison < https://www.eventbrite.co.uk/e/cutty-sark-to-belmarsh-prison-tickets-1251695227119 >. On previous Thames Path rides there were suggestions that we include Belmarsh Prison. Mike K., ever keen to oblige, has now checked out a route and will lead a ride there. Start 10am at Cutty Sark Gardens, next to the foot tunnel entrance. Follow the Thames Path passing Greenwich University, the O2 and the Thames Barrier. Turn off at Galleons Reach and continue to the top of the Tor. After enjoying the view continue the ride to Belmarsh. For the return will take the Thames path to Woolwich Arsenal for our coffee break. Then proceed along the Thames Path returning to the Cutty Sark at approximately 1pm. March 1st. Ride 2. Burgess Park to Bloomsbury < https://www.eventbrite.co.uk/e/burgess-park-to-bloomsbury-tickets-1251718255999 > Jane leading a short, easy paced ride starting from Stomping Grounds Café, Burgess Park (Chumleigh Gardens) at 10am. Here is how she describes the ride: “We'll cycle round various squares (Georgian and later) in Bloomsbury via quiet streets & cycleways but be prepared for some busier roads & junctions. No route map, but I will know where we're going on the day!” Back by 12.30 and, sorry, no coffee stop. Riders of all ages are welcome on Healthy Rides but under 18s must be accompanied by a responsible adult. Same for “adults at risk”. Always give way to pedestrians and to other cyclists so all path users feel safe. If you cannot make a ride, please cancel so that someone else can take the place.
