Peckham Rye Park Floor Alleviation - Progress?

Does anyone have an update? They were supposed to be finished by January. There is still fencing everywhere and a huge puddle/pond in the south west corner. No sign of a “bund” either. Nothing on Southwark website.

A bund is just a raised band of earth. Looks like one in the SW corner to me, assuming i've got my compass the right way up

I think that the flood that is meant to be alleviated would be in Rye Lane. The aim is to keep the water in the park and release it slowly so that land closer to the Thames is not inundated

I was wondering if they were ever going to fix the boardwalk over the pond in Dulwich Park.

If they have altered the state of at least part of Peckham Rye with their anti-flooding measures then perhaps they should alter the planting in that area to take account of the more marshy ground. I am sure that the horticulturalists in The Horniman Park (who do create different habitats) could advise - I assume for a price as consultants - for appropriate new planting to take account of any habitat changes. If it is to be water-logged for considerable periods then it's use as playing fields would need to be re-examined. Perhaps water polo?

Actually this is quite a serious issue - I used to play sport in an area of water meadow where a boy drowned in the mud under a collapsed scrum.

I'm surprised at how relaxed everyone appears to be about the works. They've been designed for: “capturing about 6 Olympic-sized swimming pools worth of surface water and releasing it very slowly” in the park. 

This has been done at taxpayer expense, to mitigate an increased risk of houses flooding, caused in no small part by the failure of Thames Water to invest in a drainage and sewage system in dire need of upgrading / modernising, and unable to cope.

Thames Water have paid out millions in bonuses and dividends since privatisation, run up huge debts, and are now on the brink of bankruptcy. Meanwhile we are paying for their under investment in the drainage and sewage system. 

The park will likely be waterlogged more frequently and for longer.

Some of the problems with the drains are down to the council I think. There was a small lake on the northern side of goose green this morning (probably not a bad thing as it might float some of the dog waste out of the park into the drains eventually). 

anyway, I saw it resolved by some bloke clearing the leaves on a drain in East Dulwich Road north (at least the bit in the road drained away and stopped flooding the park further).

If the council cleared the leaves and streets more than once every three months these problems would happen less. There's plenty of surplus revenue from the roads so I dont understand why the council can't keep them clean.
