Just gone passed Love Dulwich cafe on the bus and there’s a sign outside stating “new Turkish restaurant opening soon”

I spoke to the owner today and unfortunately due to the cost of living and the extremely high rent & rates on the lane (his are almost £100k) the cafe model isn’t working. Rather than give up and close down, he’s done quite a bit of research and is indeed going to reopen / rebrand as a Turkish restaurant from 14th March.

He will be open lunch times (with lunch specials) and evenings with a selected Turkish grill & meze menu (plus veggie & vegan dishes).

He’s a lovely chap and has a few businesses including a Turkish bakery in Penge so knows his stuff.

Personally I’m sad that he’s closing as a cafe but extremely happy and excited he’s reopening as a Turkish restaurant.

Hope not - personally think they are one of the best cafe around.

Maybe it is going to be a combination of cafe in day and Turkish at night - now that would be good.

Since I have moved and only come up a couple of times a year, will be following.

when I was there recently, they were getting into instagram, Facebook etc so hoping that not closing.

Food freshly cooked and staff so nice - nothing too much trouble. A couple of the chains could learn from them - one in particular which shall remain nameless.

Can anyone tell me please, do they have a variety of veggie options or fish?

thank you in advance - moved, so just wanted to check & menu is not big enough for me to enlarge or read.. think they do..

they got a whole page of veggie options on the menu. you name it they have it, not sure why you can't enlarge the pdf - i can enlarge it but can read it without enlarging it and i've got terrible eyesight! Maybe ignore the chicken and avocado at the bottom.

also salmon, sea bass, prawn etc.

We went both when it was a cafe but have been more since it rebranded. Yet to try an evening but we’ve enjoyed all our lunches there.

Can highly recommend the cold meze and a glass of wine for a light lunch for 2 at under £20 per head. We found the grilled meat disappointing but most restaurants have dishes that don’t please. Plenty else to choose from.

Service has always been friendly. We’ve seen them more than happy to help someone up that big step - the only negative and not something they put in.

We’ll be back.

Any more comments on Love Dulwich please? Is it as good as one says? Hard to judge as since I have been back, each time I am up and down lordship Lane practically no one there. Only a tad concerned as c have booked for Sunday as taking a party there… can change to Viet place further down - good is great there but not as comprehensive for my veggie friends.

Do recommend anywhere else - they eat fish and veggies. Tks.

tbh not impressed. I review restaurants and decided to give them benefit of the doubt that it was an off day and didn't write it up. There's a new restaurant by the Plough which I think is Turkish (where the strange French restaurant was many years ago). Planning to try that soon, if anyone has been let me know what you think./

Went to thee Viet place in LL some time ago and got charged £9 for a pot of tea  Hubby paid bill and did not notice that they had overcharged. Frequently go past the old Moulin restaurant- rarely see people in it. No indication whether they are providing meals as no menu outside (unless they have pit it up in last few days) Got impression that it was a wine bar only.

Love Dulwich is usually busy between 12 - 2 pm when they have their lunch time specials  not been there in evening or weekends.

Interested what the new Turkish restaurant is near the Plough? You don't mean the bar, Victus & Bibo as I think that is what took over the Le Moulin site? It's a nice bar that serves Turkish wraps.

Haven't tried Love Dulwich yet, but been to Viet Flavours. Sadly found it rather loud, squished and a little pricey for the food.

It's the new Persian restaurant run by the people who have Persepolis in Peckham, but with meat.

There is more info on here, somewhere, but I'm not sure which thread.

I don't think it's open yet, but I may be wrong.

Oh, sorry, I thought they were taking over the old Barcelona site opposite the old Harvester?

Thanks pinkeyes - not what we are looking for lunch on Sunday. Prob saved Eats Dulwich time too!

umm not sure what to do about Love Dulwich - gather guys and staff that ran it no longer do— not impressed with bloke I spoke to and doubt it will be busy on Sun - would love to be proven wrong ….. just have a bad vibe but we will see.

Never had a problem with Vietnamese place as been there many time - but not for six months - might just trot down on Sat and see if staff are still the same.

Johnnies have new team as well! Gail’s closed - that is not a surprise as was going down hill when I last went.

Well folks, can anyone suggest anywhere else? That offers more than a green or mixed salad for my vegetarian folk? Can be Asian or Thai as well - anyone been to the place on Half Moon Lane near Bookshop or has that changed hands as well..

Might just settle for pizza in West Dulwich along Rosendale Road unless they have changed chef and hands.

Must be somewhere in East Dulwich that caters for the odd vegetarian - maybe not but find it amazing that nothing in East Dulwich.

What is the Italian like in the side road by East Dulwich Station? Think folk have mentioned it was good - no idea what it is called.

I think the Italian you are talking about was the old pizza place which is now closed and chicken shop in it's place? There is a nice Thai restaurant called Chern Thai on Grove Vale that should be open at lunchtime Saturday. I am veggie too btw. Peachy Goat in Herne Hill is good, but depends on the ask as it's kinda burgers and pasta and not the cheapest. I tried the Turkish in Herne Hill, Saray, round the corner Saturday before last and will be quiet but the owner is super sweet and it's not expensive. If you are happy with pizza / pasta, you could also do Dai Due Fratelli which is good food, friendly and attentive service at good prices on Lordship Lane.

We are talking Sunday not Saturday! Is Saray the one opposite Brockwell Park? Think it is - always quiet when we have been there but we eat early - forgot that one. Thanks. Food was ok not bad not good but staff are nice - that was six  months ago. Ohh excellent as you are a veggie too.. Will check out Dai Due Fratelli - thanks. No Thai I am referring too is up a few shops from Oxfam Book Shop…
