I'm hoping someone can help. I live on Therapia Road and there is a dog that barks very loudly at various intervals throughout the night. Last night was the worst yet: I was woken up at 23:30, 00:30, 01:30, 03:30 and 05:30. It's coming from the back of my property, so possibly Mundania Road or the block of flats between Therapia and Mundania Roads. The dog is clearly being left outside overnight, every night (even during the freezing cold temperatures we've had recently) and is understandably not happy about it. I don't hear it during the daytime, so haven't been able to go and figure out exactly where the dog is and/or speak with the owner. This is really affecting my sleep, I'm exhausted - if anyone knows anything about this dog (or is suffering like me) please let me know!

I don't know what hours Southwark Noise Control work now, as I think they were changed, but it might be useful to speak to them about this, and also to see if your immediate neighbours are also affected by the barking?

If you keep a record (as in your post above) that would be useful for the noise control people.

Also, you shouldn't have to do this, but some years back when my sleep was constantly disturbed by a neighbour's  boiler going on and off all night (I assume it was faulty) I eventually changed my bedroom window to one with triple glazing.

You will need to be able to provide an address before the council or animal welfare will get involved.

Dogs can be left outside if they have access to shelter. In this instance, there does seem to be a pattern.

We had a neighbour who let her dog bark. She said "He likes barking" so didn't do anything.

She didn't like being shouted at over the gardens or her door knocked by her various annoyed neighbours, so it stopped. Just a thought.

Bit hard to do that in the middle of the night without causing even more disturbance to other neighbours than the original barking!

Are you sure you need to provide an address? There must be loads of instances where it's very hard to trace the source of a noise, and I certainly wouldn't want to be roaming around by myself in the middle of the night trying to track it down!

I am actually planning to get my windows replaced, so if all else fails that should eventually help!

It does need to be triple glazing, not double.

I was told that it's what they use for office windows at Heathrow, but I've no idea if that's true.

It doesn't make the room completely soundproof, but it does make a huge difference.

There must be no gaps anywhere, even very thin ones, where noise could get through.

    • Another recommendation for Dulwich Test and Services Centre. Only been using them for a couple of years but wish I’d found them earlier
    • A new roadmap (surely railmap?!) for rail accessibility has been published: https://www.gov.uk/government/publications/accessible-railways-roadmap It says "approximately 56% of stations and around 66% of the 1.3 billion journeys that take place on the network have step-free access to platforms...  "£373 million has been committed over the next 5 years to deliver Access for All projects, providing step-free access from station entrances to and between platforms, alongside other essential accessibility upgrades. These works, together, will increase the number of step-free stations across Great Britain from 56% to 58%. "This improvement will make travel easier with step-free access available at stations covering an increased share of total rail journeys – from 66% up to 71%" Don't know what that means for us here: upgrading Peckham Rye would cover a lot of rail journeys but the cost has no doubt increased from the £40m figure previously quoted. So that would eat into a lot of the funding.
    • It's not really though, is it. It's practical.  At least we're allowed Christmas lights.
