Neighbours not using their food waste bin

My neighbours across the road are not using their food waste bin - I presume they just put food waste in their normal bin! Whereas I always use my food waste bin and it’s regularly filled up.

Maybe they just eat ice and the wrapper made of ice dissolves in their bin.

Have you checked for signs of water inside ?

or worse: they could be putting food waste destined for the little brown bin into the larg brown garden waste bin. tut tut tut.

Some of my neighbours don’t use or have a food waste caddy nor a brown bin so it’s just in with the green general bin. Sone people from the council came round last year and stuck big stickers on everyone’s green bin saying something like ‘don’t use me for food waste’ but there are some people who are just not bothered.
People living in blocks of flats I can understand but even so the council have recently provided big drop off stations outside most blocks.

Is it a myth that southwark don’t have the technology/ facilities to separate food waste from brown bin contents so it’s all put in together anyway.

I don't put anything in my food waste bin, the veg all goes into the compost, and the rest feeds animals. Not a lot of the latter; whilst I am not bothered by the foxes, hedgehogs and badgers I don't want to encourage two of them.

I hope to get a community award.  Please nominate me.

If I had neighbours who didn't do this I would name and shame on the socials.  The street WhatsApp is a good start and fertile ground for such disputes.

I know they eat food as they get a Tesco delivery every week. So they must have food scraps.

A lot of my neighbours don't use their waste bins either. One neighbour even said 'why should I? It's the council's job'

But I thought that’s what we pay council tax for - so we put our food waste in the food waste bin and the council comes and collects it!

It's a tough one but I do think if the council provide the bins we should use them. We all should be doing our bit.

The council does not really lead by example…. I saw a collection on Rye Lane where everything was put together! Ok, it’s food traders rubbish so not everything will be clean enough to be recycled blah blah blah but still…. Food scraps, wooden pallet, plastic crates and cardboard boxes were crushed together in the general bin lorry …😠

It’s not right. I’m going to contact Neil Coyle as he’s the MP for Southwark and Old Bermondsey - so he can liaise with Southwark Council to get more people using their food recycling bins. Like my neighbour across the road.

Smiley_blue_1234, perhaps the photo was of a business collection and not of one made by Veolia or on behalf of Southwark.

And perhaps Buzzard's neighbours are omnivores.

Rye Lane is Peckham Rye not East Dulwich, so most likely not relevant here. It depends where you draw your boundaries.

Bob, why do you have food waste?  I find this intolerable.  We only exactly what we need and you can smoke dried banana skins to get high

I expect Reform will end all this nonsense about segregating waste, bagging dog poo.  Your neighbour will have quite a few parts of the country that they can move to without all this tut-tutting.
