I sadly read about burglaries on this forum and really and i am in the mind set of expecting it, rather than not. Does anyone know of any current neighbourhood watch schemes...and if so where are they. Failing that surely with the forumites we can form a very strong ED watch. Maybe a new section on the forum landing page wholly dedicated to "Neighbourhood Watch". What are everyone's thoughts? Can this work? will it help tackle and reduce this? Can we name and shame people and ensure the police leverage this forum to get clearer messages out to our community?

There a quite a few active Neighbourhood Watch schemes in ED already. I made contact with our local organiser via the Safer Neighbourhood team for the College Ward (where I live). Work out which ward you are in and email the relevant address. Also, you can normally get a discount on your home insurance if you are an active member:

Following the recent burglaries in The Gardens and surrounding area, the Peckham Rye Safer Neighbourhood Team have organised a meeting on Monday 21st July at 7pm to form a Neighbourhood Watch Scheme in The Gardens. Don't know if that's near where you live but may be of interest to some on the forum - its to be held at Harris Girls School.

    • These neighbours dislike trees period. They refused to have lost trees replaced by the Estate on our communal green. They don’t like the leaf and seed droppings. These make the grass look ‘messy’. Similarly, they don’t like my policy of leaving the tree leaves where they lie on the grass verge - hence chopping the overhanging branches. It’s like living in the 1950s. My neighbours have three gardeners with leaf blowers who come twice weekly to remove every leaf from their front lawns. Their grass is cut weekly and all the  cuttings put in multiple brown bins. It’s an outdated mindset of the moneyed classes in my view. But sadly, I’m very much in the minority.
