Hello, my name is Maki. I'm a writer and an artist who loves working with children. I'm looking for a rate of £20 an hour, for a minimum of 20 hours a week - either for one family or as a nanny share. I can offer ad hoc babysitting and evening work as well. I'm located between Catford and Forest Hill but can cycle around Southeast easily and quickly.

Prior to my current contract, which ends in late July, I was a nanny for several years to three wonderful girls between the ages of 4-15. Plus, as the eldest daughter of a large family, I have much informal experience of looking after wee ones of all ages - from babies to teens. I'm very familiar with all sorts of childcare tasks, from changing nappies, planning and cooking tasty, healthy meals, cleaning, helping out with homework, arts and crafts, fun trips to the playground, and providing a safe, encouraging space for wee ones to talk about their day.

I am degree-educated, with a Masters in ecology and sociology, and have experience in science educational publishing, where I created educational content and learned about many different ways to engage kids in their learning. I'm also a freelance arts and nature facilitator, where I showcase my love of inspiring creativity in others. My work includes collaging workshops, zine-making workshops, reading groups, film clubs, food storytelling, cyanotype printing, and more. As such, I am confident that I can help your kids channel their creative flow, and I can definitely assist with any tricky homework sheets that they may be struggling with. I have helped to motivate and tutor children in literature, science, and maths, helping them improve their grades through fun games and by assessing their own individual learning needs.

I'm also more than happy to help out with any housework, and also with animal care as I love animals and have much experience catsitting and dogsitting. I'm comfortable on a bike too if you would like a cyclist. I speak a little Japanese, a little Indonesian, and I love languages - so would be happy to assist with language learning as well. I have a DBS and would happily arrange for a refresher of my first aid training.

Most of all, I would love to be a fun, nourishing, and helpful presence for your family.

If this sounds of interest to you, and if you're looking for July onwards, please do let me know.

Many thanks and I look forward to hearing from you,

Maki

    • Disagree. Where are the police when you need them? People want a police presence, they want to feel reassured by seeing them do what the word suggests, policing, so go catch some bad guys, arrest, charge and get the CPS to prosecute with the evidence to enable this to happen. Stabbing and shootings are so common place they no longer even get reported in the public domain. How many crimes don't get solved? Rather case closed and forgotten. The number of low to high level crimes which remain unsolved is staggering.  The criminal fraternity know this, they know they won't get caught so they just carry on.  Biggest crimes which affect most people, probably are phone and car theft, both are prolific and what do the police do, diddly squat. zilch, nothing, provide a crime reference number and the case is closed. Not good enough, not by a country mile.   Met Engage? I don't think so.
    • https://www.standard.co.uk/news/london/violent-crime-plunges-london-homicide-rate-b1247078.html Worth doing a little checking before making assumptions about violent crimes. Recent data suggests a drop in violent crime. Gang violence will make a significant contribution to the numbers. You are unlikely to be attacked by a stranger
    • Unfortunately there are plenty of shops which don't care and will sell vapes, alcohol and weed to minors, I'm sure they won't care about selling them fireworks. Or the kids nick them.
    • It’s getting a bit annoying. We’ve a nervous dog who trembles when they go off. I know to expect it around Halloween and Diwali but it seems to be happening more through the year.
