I also found Affordable Shutters quote to be MUCH cheaper than others we got in - and as Wanhope says, this is for basswood rather than MDF. I was prepared to consider MDF but when you can get real wood for cheaper it seems a no brainer. Also Affordable Shutters are a (non-local admittedly) family business, not national as they might sound from their name. Our windows are really big and your quotes do seem a bit high to me.

I much prefer white personally as the green one will limit you and future owners of your house in terms of decorating choices. But I have seen the most amazing rainbow ones that if we were made of money I'd love for a nursery or playroom! Not sure who made those though.

Hi All,

We're looking for shutters for a newly installed windows - but really need them in before christmas (we're having guests for christmas so want to have some window coverings.) Does anyone know if the lead time is shorter for any of the companys mentioned? I have tried John Lewis but they tell me that there is no way that they can get them in before Christmas. I've just requested quotes from Bromley Blinds (seemed to link to Hillary's - is that right?), shuttersup and the new england company and affordable blinds - just wondering if anyone knew who might be quickest (and not cost an absolute arm and a leg).

S

So I've decided on solid tier on tier shutters, getting quotes from The New England Shutter Company very nice but expensive, waiting on The traditional shutter company to measure up. As previous people have said I also prefer the frame to sit behind the shutters something that both these companies do.

I'm just wondering now though if it's better to get a carpenter to make them? Or stick with a specialist, because we're going solid now I imagine this might be cheaper but I don't want to compromise on quality etc.. Anyone had experience with this?

Thanks

I got my shutters from Shutters Up having had quotes from them together with Aafordable Shutters and Shutterly Fabulous.

Although all 3 were very professional and friendly, Shutters Up were the most reasonable and I was also impressed by their service and attention to detail when quoting, discussing details with me that neither of the other companies did.

I used paper blinds from here: http://www.blindsinabox.co.uk/index.html while waiting for plantation shutters to be fitted (about 8wks after windows were measured) including in my bedroom & they were fab - v quick to put up/adjust to correct size and the black ones cut the light out really well & considering the quality v, v reasonably priced.

Unsure if still the case, but I got them in Wilkinsons in Bromley.

Just to update, we had our shutters installed today from Affordable Shutters and couldn't be happier. The fitting was really painless and quick and the effect is brilliant both inside and out. Would most definitely use again and am attaching a picture to show how nice they look :)

We used the New England Shutter Company who are based by Wandsworth Common Station. This proved to be a big mistake and one we now very much regret.

Initially the service seemed friendly and of reasonable quality, particularly at the sales and measuring stage and the samples looked great. The after sales service however was appalling and they had no respect for us once the order was made. They were extremely rude and have no idea how to behave professionally and don't seem to care about customers at all.

We certainly wouldn't recommend them to anybody and I note other bad reviews online now we have investigated further. A mistake on our part in choosing them in the first place, but you live and learn I suppose!

    • Which is exactly why Rayner had to go - don't be the sleaze attack dog and then not keep your own house in order - the really shocking fact is she didn't go the moment this came to light because she knew what advice, and the advice to seek proper tax expertise that was given to her in writing by the very people she was trying to throw under the bus - she clearly thought she might be able to spin her way out of it. When you look at the facts, the advice she was given and when and her behaviour in the last few days it has been scandalous and just shows the contempt for the public intelligence some politicians have. Interesting to see a very unscientific vox pop on BBC News last night but a lot of her own constituents seem to want rid of her as well and to be honest if you have to lose your cabinet role for this breach of the rules then you should probably lose your seat too. That is the hypocrisy here and why a lot of people don't like politicians because they're all the same.
    • Hi all, I’m after a stereo amp in working condition. Not necessarily anything fancy, as long as it works. Thanks
    • You are missing my point, there are a few here who are rabidly anti Labour.  And have lost sight of the many scandals associated with their party.  I've not made excuses for Rayner, rather I am inferring that it is hypocritical to go on about one of the major parties whilst ignoring your own dirty washing.   You are not making sense.  I expect half the country likes a drink and a sizeable number likes a vape.  What is your point?
    • If you read the article posted above, it is all very carefully worded. However I've found this: https://uknip.co.uk/news/uk/uk-news/peckham-rye-park-attack-man-seriously-injured-august-2025/
