Didn’t they have a very ‘unusual’ way of allocating council housing which was also criticised in that report and which hopefully has now been changed

I agree, I always voted for him despite not normally voting Lib Dem. He was an excellent local councillor and very involved in local activities.

I ran into James Barber walking down the road a couple of weeks ago and he confirmed he’s definitely standing in Goose Green Ward at the next council election…

James also tried to keep the focus on the community and keep the council in check

James Barber was very involved. I do though recall he was a big supporter of CPZ so am interested to understand his thinking on these locally, plus LTN, now, and how much heed he would take of majority opposition to implementation, as has been the case recently?

He supported it, but if residents voted against it he would respect that. 

Many of the CPZs round here were implemented after he left and Labour took over.

Glad that James is thinking of standing at the next election. Known him for years, he used to pop in to say hallo when he stood in this area (now Dulwich Hill) Children must be well in their teens now so perhaps he has a bit more time.

In recent consultation on further ED CPZ the majority of respondents were against. Fully appreciate you may not live on a road proposed for CPZ. If you are close to that area it is likely you will be affected by parking displacement if the CPZ goes in.

I was just curious what James Barber's position on this is? Perhaps he'll come on here and let us know. He was always really good at visiting the forum.

Is the leader elected by all the labour councillors. When is deadline.

Edit to answer.. The Labour Group will decide on its new leader during a closed-door meeting on 30 June. Their choice will then be put to Southwark’s Council Assembly on Wednesday, 9 July for a vote.
