Whilst I think it's great the cycle path has been upgraded I have found one thing pretty dangerous on my second or third ride along it recently.

The junction with Sainsbury's and Bessemer passage has raised tiles to raise awareness for pedestrians that they are joining a cycle lane.

The blurb from a maker's site says:

The orientation of the bars indicates whether the entry is for the cycleway or the footpath. On the footpath, the bars should be perpendicular (ladder surface) to the direction of travel, whilst on the cycleway they should be parallel (tramline) to the direction of travel.

Well this is all very well, but if you have ridden over them in the wet and had to deviate you may well have nearly lost your front wheel, as I did. Even when riding straight ahead the channeling effect is really unsettling and I'm amazed this is the best design.

As someone recovering from collarbone surgery- this is something I can do without! Two-wheelers are very likely to come off here, esp when you consider the traffic to and from the school, etc.

Any other thoughts?

Thanks.

I came across the comment below so seems this part of the track is supposed to be a pedestrian area but agree if you cycle across the parallel bars especially when filled with rainwater there's a high chance of coming off in the tramlines.  Once you know it's there you can take appropriate action but first time users could be caught out. ☹️

Note that this is at the entry of the cycle lane. It's not designed to alert cyclists that their lane is ending; it's designed to make sure that cyclists do not enter the pedestrian lane (and that pedestrians do not enter the cycle lane).

Not sure how good they are.  This junction in vauxhall bridge road is absolutely lethal for pedestrians as cyclists just ride across the pedestrian area at high speed.  I've seen a few near catastrophes at this site.

    • I realise this is highly unlikely, but if anyone has a colour laser printer in very good working order, I'd be delighted to take it off your hands!
    • I found Leon on EDF and I could not be happier with the work he has completed for us. He changed a number of switches and fitted a ceiling light.  He was polite, tidy and arrived exactly on time. I would not hesitate to recommend him to anyone looking for an electrician 07707 925039
    • What about the places they go to after 11 as it is? I think a lot of the reticence will stem from the fact that someone turning 18 now will ha e loads of school mates who are still only 17 and the liability for serving underage people is huge, plus the loss of profit selling mostly only soft drinks makes 18th birthdays a hard sell in pubs / clubs.
    • The current crimes from what I hear are phone theft from the person, car theft and tradesman vehicle/tools theft. Plus of course the overall increase in stabbings and shootings across London which are becoming normalised.
