Since the end of last week my daughter has had a really itchy scalp at the base of her hairline. I had used a children's conditioner on it for the first time - so assumed it was that - it was worse last week and she had scratched so much it was bleeding in parts. So i washed her hair again to wash out any residue conditioner. Since then it's been a bit better but today she has started scratching quite a lot again. I haven't washed her hair for about 4 days as i thought maybe washing it too much would irritate it. I've checked for head lice - she has auburn, quite fine hair, and i would have thought that by now i would have seen something? I've read about tgel shampoo being good for eczema on the scalp but it's not for under 12s - she is 5. I'm a bit perplexed. I suppose I should take her to the GP next week, but is there anything i can do over the weekend - can i use a tiny bit of tgel on her?

My daughter has had this for years, no sign of anything but caused bleeding down the neck and base of hairline for months on end from itching. She only now has visible eczema in her hair, definitely cant use any shampoo or conditioner products. Were were using shampoo until 5-6 months ago, free from everything and costing me a bomb online though as we weren't given prescription within her eczema repeats as no visible symptoms. We have now been prescribed a shampoo suitable for children, I'll check the name and get back to you its not prescription only.

For the last 6 months I've been washing her hair with plain water, and using nothing at all in her bath. Does the job fine, they don't get that dirty anyway. Her hair has been amazing, wish I could get away with it. I personally wouldn't use Tgel, it is a very strong formula and could cause much further irritation.

Has she been wearing a hat or hood recently? Could the irritation be from sweat at the hairline? I think I would also avoid Tgel or any other concentrated products until you know what's causing the irritation, b/c once the skin is broken (whatever the underlying cause) putting anything concentrated on it will probably just irritate it further. If you do want to try Tgel, maybe just put a tuppence-sized bit on one spot of hairline and see if it's better or worse? Have you tried rubbing a little spot savlon into the hairline?

    • A new roadmap (surely railmap?!) for rail accessibility has been published: https://www.gov.uk/government/publications/accessible-railways-roadmap It says "approximately 56% of stations and around 66% of the 1.3 billion journeys that take place on the network have step-free access to platforms...  "£373 million has been committed over the next 5 years to deliver Access for All projects, providing step-free access from station entrances to and between platforms, alongside other essential accessibility upgrades. These works, together, will increase the number of step-free stations across Great Britain from 56% to 58%. "This improvement will make travel easier with step-free access available at stations covering an increased share of total rail journeys – from 66% up to 71%" Don't know what that means for us here: upgrading Peckham Rye would cover a lot of rail journeys but the cost has no doubt increased from the £40m figure previously quoted. So that would eat into a lot of the funding.
