Very specific I know! For our daughter who has just finished Year I2. There are many tutors advertising but would really like recommendations. I was going to post on the Tutoring sub board but there appears to be very little traffic there. Feel free to call or text 07342 059948

Many thanks

Why don’t you speak to head of English at private schools? Might be able to recommend a senior student.. pity now summer hols.

Was how my friend found a tutor for both their kids - maths and science and English..

They also have some mag covering schools as well

Thanks both for the replies and suggestions. She enjoyed studying the play but fell short in her mock and we don't have the paper to work out why. She had rotten teaching in her state school on this part of her course and we are trying to make up for it

Silly question, but would it not have been someone at  the school who marked the mock, and if so (rotten teaching notwithstanding) could they not say why she fell short?

I hope you find someone who can help.

Since I am of a certain vintage now, not sure if what I am going to suggest is even still around but here goes… use to be able to buy “dummy/mock papers on line and also had mini synopsis of Shakespeare plays specifically covering students wanting to gain a better understanding of play before taking mocks/ exams.

Only know this as many many moons ago, struggled with English Literature and Language and this was the avenue-my parents went down. Also was at this point in my life, educated abroad as part of my fathers job.

    • My last paragraph was relevant. I was in central London having a meal with family on the same day as the recent large right wing march. The date of the  meal was arranged before it was known about the march, and the venue was convenient for one of my brothers and his partner, who had travelled down from the midlands and had a hotel and theatre tickets booked near the venue. It was just up the road from Trafalgar Square, and my partner and I were seriously concerned on the way there and the way back that we would encounter violent people from the march. Luckily we were able to avoid this, but as I expect you will have read, several police officers were injured, and a friend of mine was amongst a group of counter protesters who were hemmed in by marchers for hours, which was obviously very frightening. The group had to be protected by police before they were finally able to get a safe passage out. Therefore, I don't think my last paragraph was unnecessary at all in the context of when I personally feel unsafe in London.
    • You know what? Interesting how memories are triggered.. And what memories.. what I love about this forum, are several things.. support, advice,  buy and sell, free stuff.. Glad as well, that one each one  looks after each other..in their own way… Thank you so much, new admin person for wha you do, and taking up the helm, when, this forum was possibly going to close…
    • Funny you should say that, Sephiroth.   I somewhat oddly still remember passing though Gloucester at the tail end of a cycling holiday decades ago, and getting the feel just from the street activity, cycling through the centre, that I didn't even want to stop and look around.  Tewkesbury, otoh, just up the road, I'd had plenty of time for.   How 'justified' my Gloucester vibes then, who knows?  Chalk and cheese, of course.  Horses for courses. ...
