We went to the open evening tonight and really liked the ethos of the school and the staff we met. We were impressed with the small group teaching too. Reading up on it afterwards, I see it's in Special Measures, which may well be a good thing right now. I remember parents on here with kids that ended up there last year and the year before. Does anyone have a parent's perspective on Deptford Green to share?

My neighbours son started there last Sept and really like it. They were surprised by the school going into special measures, but say it is on a v minor thing (something to do with maths results) that hasn't had s big effect on their son(who is on the G&T programme).

Get the feeling that being that rare thing (a co-ed LA comp) there is pressure to try & make it an academy, thus special measures being quickly applied.

I'd love to know more about the G&T programme. They invited parents to book individual tours any time so we're going to do that (look and learn, Harris Crystal Palace, with your one hellish open evening) but obviously good to hear from other parents. There was one very passionate parent who spoke during the presentation at the school, which was a nice touch.

My friend's son started there this Sept and has settled in very well. He is G & T in Maths.

They went into special measures and I think she said it was the Maths results (think the whole dept had been fired the year before) and also there was mention of bullying which the students were not allowed to report.

    • I have never used AI in my life. It's just notes from my forthcoming monograph on light industry in Dulwich and Camberwell 1879-1946 (dates chosen for obvious reasons).
    • Thank you, this really made me chuckle. It's like you met my brother as he would be the one taking more than his share. Plus the 'pikey' chutney is a winner. Unusual as in can't be identified??? Sadly I'm not the host otherwise I would definitely do that I regularly shop in the Cheese Block and am a fan. But as people have pointed out, there is no cheese shop that charges less based on bulk, so Aldi unusual cheeses may be what the familam receive! Yay, so I can get discounted mouse nibbled cheese still! Oooo, now I do love a Stinking Bishop. It actually offends my stepmum by it's stinkiness but luckily she is not one of the attendees at this particular gathering.  This is blooming genius. It's actually my partner who has the biggest issue with buying in plastic so I will have to hide the wrappers from him!
    • I like the look of SD's Sweet and Sour chicken. It's a really good dish when made freshly and well. I'll need to try it. Sad that Oriental Star and Lucky House by Dulwich Library both closed at a similarish time. They were decent, reliable, "British Chinese" takeaways.
