I was taken aback this morning when road barriers were put up with no notice and the surrounding chaos in the surrounding roads as we all had to divert with no signage as to where to / how.

Surely this is illegal without consultation? Turney rd is a major thorough fare and the traffic back up on Rosendale/ Croxted and Turney Rd was outrageous.

I saw this yesterday afternoon. It looked like the road has been closed for 'playing out' whereby roads are closed for children to play safely. I thought it was for small side roads not major routes. It seemed pretty chaotic - to close a road at a major junction with traffic lights? It would have made more sense for dalkeith to have been closed for playing and keep the traffic off the side roads trying to find a way around the obstruction.

I totally support the playing out idea, but this did not seem a very good implemention.

I was caught up in it yesterday too coming from the south circular and trying to go along turney road. Traffic was directed up and down Dalkeith road but as it is such a narrow road there was chaos. Two vans trying to pass each other so the traffic in both directions was at a standstill. Took me 20 minutes to get back onto turney road! I appreciate that they may have to close the road but some signs further down at the south circular would have been helpful. Plus, trying to direct two lanes of a fairly well used road down a very small side road is not a great solution.

    • Perhaps Gooseygreeny was not familiar with the wildlife before Gala was imposed on the park, since when its value to wildlife has deteriorated. The Park had never been disturbed before, as the council had respected it as a Site of Importance for Nature Conservation, so only the Common was licensed by them as a site for events. The first time Gala held their event, there was a tree with woodpeckers nesting in it right in the middle of the main field they used and thrushes, blackbirds and great tits nesting within the shrubs and trees immediately surrounding the field. The woodpeckers were thriving on ants from the anthills in the grass. To those of us who used to enjoy watching the wildlife, it was very obviously a Site of Importance for a variety of birds. Despite being accessed by the public and their dogs, it had been relatively undisturbed,  which was one of the main reasons why it was so special and why I have been opposed to the Gala festival being held during the bird nesting season.
