I got done twice in a month 22mph and 23mph.make the speed limit 25mph most days I've been behind other motorist doing 17or 18 mph.ive been passed by joggers.🏃‍♂️                         might as well start producing cars with only 2 gears

The 20mph limit is to protect pedestrians, and I guess to a lesser extent other drivers.

If you don't stick to it, you can't complain if you are fined.

I and probably most people have accidentally gone over it sometimes, but I wouldn't then complain if I was "caught".

I have had fines for speeding in the past (in a 30mph area) but it just made me more careful in the future.

I don't have the stats to hand, but I believe there is evidence that the lowered speed limit has reduced accidents, injuries and fatalities. I stand to be corrected.

I think the OP's comment that they were on their way to a funeral is the point really. Human error and all that...it happens to us all and under such circumstances a fine can feel harsh. But, it is what it is. I just don't know how helpful it is to advise others to be 'aware'. As I said, you can be very aware but under certain conditions, have a momentary lapse in concentration. Sue, I know you were not doling out advice to be 'aware', so not a response to you.

A 6 minute mile (which would be a very hard run for most people) is 10 mph. The world record for the marathon is an average of 13.1 mph.

If the speed limit was 25 we’d have people complaining about being unfairly ‘done’ for going ‘only’ 28 mph, just as people feel it’s unfair to be penalised at 35 in a 30.

Visitors comment how nice London is with so many boroughs being 20mph.  Some go home and then lobby their council.

I very much suspect the visitors are not trying to get about London on a daily basis! I agree 20mph makes sense in some places but not all places and the blanket approach is not a smart one.

I tend to agree with those who suggest the placement of some cameras in London suggest revenue generation is the paramount objective rather than road safety.

I know it is not 20mph but 30 mph limit on the elevated dual carriageway section of the Westway is an utter joke and has nothing to do with road safety but is probably raking in the money - probably from the very visitors to the city who happen to have the misfortune to drive in that way and don't understand the trap that has been set for them!

Getting done doing 22mph .will not kill anyone .and secondly the joggers were all professional athletes.including at least 3 Olympic gold medalists

Go on a speed awareness course and they will explain how every extra 1 mph will cause much greater harm when you hit bone and soft tissue.  They also tell you how little time you save by speeding.  I'm absolutely stunned how any of you can defend speeding.  Money goes to central government, complain to them if you have a problem.  Introduction of speed awareness courses gives you a second chance, saves points against your license, higher insurance and the chance to become a better and more courteous driver.

There's no point having a speed limit if cars going above it a little way are just "let off", surely?

What buses on LL are doing 50mph?

At least a warning for 1st offence. Double deckers 85 76 40 out of 10 8 will be speeding. Between 4am 6am

You would get points and a fine for 40mph in a 20mph and fully deserve them.  Shame that you did not take on more of what was said at your speed course.

Complain to TfL rather than using this as a justification for speeding.  Warnings have never been issued in my memory for speeding caught on camera.  That was forty years ago when a police officer may have stopped you in a following car.

The police (Enforce speed limits as the link below confirms].  Not sure why you have to question my expertise.  A simple Google will give you the (same) answer

https://www.london.gov.uk/who-we-are/what-london-assembly-does/questions-mayor/find-an-answer/enforcement-20mph-zones-local-roads

Good on the boroughs who have adopted 20mph [local authorities can set lower speed limits] , and shame on those who haven't.  Cycling around Bromley many cars are doing 40mph plus on residential roads.  Surely you can't condone that.

Well, who said I was questioning your expertise? But are you sure, the very same Google search will tell you it is local traffic authorities that set the speed limit. Who are the local traffic authorities in Southwark; TFL for major roads; Southwark council for local roads.

They [local authorities] set the [lower] speed limits, we all know that, good for them.    The police enforce - what on earth is your point?  Councils bringing in speed limits to protect lives [confirms my first sentence].  It is clearly not a generator of revenue.  Why would you have a problem?  We have had numerous discussions over the last few years, and whilst I know that you are not a petrolhead your views come over as an apologist for motorists breaking the rules. Yet you go on an on about cyclists, including those few that can exceed 20 mph.

The point is I asked who sets the speed limits and you said the police and I challenged you on that and then you suggested I was questioning your "expertise" by asking that question. But, in fact, it is the local traffic authority who sets the speed limit and not the police. So I was right to ask the question wasn't I because what you were saying was wrong?

    • I called InPost when I saw the first parcel had been refused twice, they said it was because the shop didn't have capacity / space. I went to the shop and they basically said that was BS, that they had plenty of space and showed me the parcels from that day's InPost delivery - they even went through all the parcels to see if mine was there. I called them again a couple of days later after the tracking showed the first parcel had been refused twice more, and two others had also been refused. They said they'd investigate and would send me an email (nope) and to contact Vinted. I called them again today after further refusals, again they said they'd investigate and for me to contact Vinted - they seemed to intimate that they could only do something if Vinted contacted them, despite me trying to explain that it is impossible to contact anyone at Vinted, let alone get them to chase up parcels. Tbh I don't believe the tracking updates are based on actual events, it stinks of lost parcels that they just don't want to admit to, so just keep pretending they're trying to deliver them and update the tracking info. I can't think of any other reason this would happen. Although very odd if it is this, as all the parcels were sent from different places and at different times.
