This party wall surveyor group were very helpful when I was looking for someone

https://pyramusandthisbesociety.org/

(Great name!)

Their aims include to promote best professional practice in party wall surveying.

The person they recommended was excellent. I can't remember his name, but I will look it up.

Do make sure whoever you get is fully qualified. He told me that my neighbour's party wall surveyor wasn't.

Also, don't agree to share a surveyor. I did that once before (with different neighbours) and it became very awkward when there were problems, and embarrassing for the neighbours, who I got on well with.

The person having the work done has to pay for your surveyor.

Make sure you use a chartered surveyor.

Party wall surveyors need no actual surveying qualifications to set themselves up as a PWS.  You don't need RICS qualifications to be a member of Pyramus and Thisbe society.

When a PW agreement is straight forward then it's not a problem to have a unqualified PWS but if you run into structural problems you need a qualified surveyor as a PWS who fully understands buildings.

The surveyor I had was Michael Cooper.

He is FRICS.

See the screenshot which has for some reason been inserted at the beginning of this post instead of the end!

He just happened to be the person I spoke to, he asked me what area I lived in and then said he covered East Dulwich.

So (I now recall) he recommended himself!

But I don't think I could have found anybody better.

Adding info

We have some worrying cracks in our kitchen extension wall and ceiling and I need to get these checked out. Contacted a Which Trusted Trader (Builders) and was advised that I would need a structural surveyor/ engineer to indicate the cause of  cracks before they could come and assess. They gave me a contact number of a firm called IDR Surveyors - left message on number given but yet to have a reply,

Anyone used a structural engineer recently?

    • My car was stolen a few months back from my driveway but I had a tracker and found it in a private car park in Lavender Hill close to the police station. I was lucky. The thieves hide it up against that eventuality. High spec cars are targeted I'm afraid. The way it was stolen required the thieves to wire in their own computer accessing a front light (which had had a metal sheet welded across which they prised off). They had searched for a tracker but not found it. They also had to cut away a steering wheel lock. They had to come well tooled up and briefed to do what they did. Beating them off is non trivial. As I said, them not finding my tracker was just lucky.
    • Been with The Gardens now for around 30 years and very rarely do I have a problem. I went in to collect a form and mentioned that my leg was hurting and hot- was seen immediately by the Practice nurse who then arranged an appointment on the Saturday with the Extra care service at TJ Centre where I saw a doctor, who then sent me off to Kings for further tests.. I recently booked a flu jab but appointment is in 2 weeks.
    • Have used Milk and More for years. When the price went up we cancelled a couple of pints but we still have 8 pints a week. If we are expecting family etc we buy from Sainsburys to top up. We kept on with M & M as if weather bad we could order extra stuff from them to save us a trip to Sainsburys Local. Also gives employment to our milkman.
    • Hi there, Our Lexus NX300H, (reg RF18BWO) was stolen off our driveway last night, Monday 27th October. It was there at 9pm, and had gone by 7am. If anyone has any footage on their doorbell or Ring, that would be super helpful. We have asked some neighbours and reported to the police etc.  Most upsettingly, there was a box of old family videos in the car boot, in an old Sainsburys box (photo attached). If anyone sees these dumped at the side of the road, please contact me asap! They are priceless videos that my deceased grandparents took. Thank you for any info, Jojo
