I would leave the country if khan became  priminister

Are you a very wealthy second home owner?

Do you have dual nationality?

It's not that easy to leave your country if you're neither of these.

Where would you go?

Should we change the title to Is Starmer toast?

The real infighting is just starting: https://www.bbc.co.uk/news/articles/ckgy79yr74do

Wouldn't you like Labour to turn things around, preferably under Starmer, at least for the time being?  Otherwise, seeing as the Tories are useless, you are throwing your hand in with Farage.  I'm sure that most of us on this site really don't want that.

Personally, I would like to see labour do something positive for the country, unfortunately under Starmer and Reeves the opposite is true. Change of leadership.is now required, not a general election at this stage but if Starmer and Reeves stay in post then the May local elections will give Reform more power.

Now is the time for change and damage limitation , not after May when large number of reform local councillors will be voted in as a protest against this Government.

When did this whole “elect a govt and then change leaders as we see fit “ notion take hold ?

it didn’t help the Tories and it won’t help Labour

(and why do people think they can change leaders, call new elections on a whim, but NEVER EVER talk about changing Brexit)

I dont think starmer is doing a good job. But he was elected. And the volatile electorate wanting short term fixes are part of the reason behind his ultra-cautiousness

Complaining about govt and suggesting change of direction seem fine to me. Demanding a change of leader not so much

that being said, if there was some Labour implosion and someone like Burgon was in some mad scenario made leader, then I think the electorate should be entitled to a general election. Just as it should have happened when Johnson was replaced

There has been a number of achievements, but drowned out due to:

Bloody awful comms from the government

Some daft decisions and initiatives, then either digging themselves into a hole and/or turning

For example the well off should not get winter fuel allowance, benefit needs to be reformed and rich farmers should not get tax breaks, but we now how all that went

Employers national insurance - money has to be raised from somewhere but that is the difficult question

The image from the right wing press has now stuck, propagated by traditional and social media.

And then some appalling acts of self harm.

We of course all know better, but I do wonder about the competence of those advising him.

"Country before Party" is Starmer's motto. Lucy Powell, Burnham and other senior cabinet ministers briefing against Starmer, describing the situation as 'terminal', and publicly condemning him is not putting the country first. They'll be no better than the Tories if they enforce on us a new PM and the political dissatisfaction of the electorate will explode.

Labour needs to get its house in order, but there are too many factions and, just like the Tories at the end, it doesn't know what it is anymore. I think the situation is unsolvable.

One of the issues is that under this government, the so called black hole of £20 billion has, according to some, risen to £50 billion. Which will result in even more taxes.

I was always taught to cut my coat according to my cloth, which would in an ideal world mean having to halt or stop projects or services until the deficit is down to a manageable level. Increasing taxes has a limit (the Laffer Curve https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Laffer_curve)  and also damages the economy and the publics ability to spend.

If Labour want to turn things around they are going to have to face some uncomfortable decisions on where to cut their ambition.

    • To put this over dramatic and somewhat gleeful post in context, the policy has not "failed at first hurdle." "It is just a temporary decision. The judge granted a pause of at least 14 days so the man, who is not being named for legal reasons and arrived in the UK on a small boat last month, could provide evidence of his claim that he has been a victim of modern day slavery." from BBC website
    • what sort of bike are you looking for - men's , ladies, size. commuter, mountain or racer etc etc. And what is your budget?
    • Is  the  decision by the High Court not to  deport an Eritrean man  to France on Wednesday anything other than a massive boost for Farage and reform. Farage has made a commitment for the UK to exit the ECHR which limits the independence of our justice system The UK Government’s “one in, one out” has failed at the first hurdle - just as the Rwanda scheme did under the Tories. To make it even more embarrassing is that the accommodation for deportees   in Rwanda paid for by the UK is now being used by the USA for its deportees. If we are to have Farage thrust upon us as a result of such judicial decisions, then God help us.
