Apologies if already posted on here - did look, couldn't find anything...

'The Metropolitan Police have appealed for help to find a man after a woman was seriously injured in an unprovoked attack in south London.

The woman, in her 20s, was assaulted on Lordship Lane in East Dulwich at around 4.45pm on Monday August 25.

She was treated by paramedics for injuries to her face and her jaw was broken in the attack.

The victim was then taken to hospital and she continues to be supported by specialist officers.

Officers are now searching for the suspect and are urging members of the public to come forward if they have information.

He is described as a black man in his 30s or 40s with balding hair. He was wearing dark clothing during the attack.

He is said to have approached the woman while she was by herself before swearing at her and then hitting her in the face.

Detective constable Charlotte Kerr, who is leading the investigation, said: “We are working hard to find the person we believe is responsible for this senseless and unprovoked attack.

“While we continue our enquiries, we hope our increased neighbourhood police presence will offer some reassurance to women and girls throughout the local area.

“If you saw anything on Monday, 25 August – particularly between the junction of Lordship Lane and Chesterfield Grove at around 16:45hrs - do not hesitate to get in touch with us.

“No matter how small you think your information is, it may be the key that unlocks our investigation.”

Any witnesses or anyone who can help identify the suspect is asked to please contact the Met via 101, quoting 5018/25AUG or 01/7897951/25. Those who wish to share information anonymously can contact Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111.'

A couple of years ago a similar looking man bumped in to me while I was walking on grove vale, and he swore at me.

I think people are being let out of mental institiutions too early.

Daylight as well - must have been people around unless it was further on Chesterfield Grove - was bank holiday as well so not so many people around. Poor girl - must be pretty traumatised

It is so scary.  It could have been anyone of us. I hope the lady can find her inner strength and heal.   The wicked man should be locked up for a very long time.

I would say shocking! but now similar violence an everyday occurrence in London and other British towns and cities these days that is just accepted as the norm, sadly.

Tell me the last time a young woman had been attacked in broad daylight on lordship. It’s very very rare, horrible but rare.   It’s not the norm.

Not helpful to politicise this. A rather reactionary post.

Politicise? just reality these days! the truth needs to be said and not hidden, hopefully this trash can be found asap and locked up! I'm sure anyone, Chumbawamba or whoever would agree?

Sadly the actions as described (unprovoked frenzied attack by a stranger) suggest psychotic behaviour, possibly drug induced and therefore, if so, possibly not the result of an inherent wickedness. If he is locked away for a long time it may be section not sentance which achieves this.

I'm pretty sure I've seen a guy that fits that description hanging around the area of LL in the past, I noticed him because he had a crazy look in his eye and was quite tall, skinny scruffy and dressed in black, looked like he was on drugs tbh..but the guy I recall was definately nearer 40 and his hair was balding in the centre somehow..in a kind of U shape.

I just got a 'dont make eye contact' with him vibe.

I hope they catch him soon its very scary..and I wish his victim a swift recovery.

Dangerous filth like this shouldn't be allowed to wander our streets attacking random people! what's being done to get them safely locked away from causing any more harm?? it would appear, nothing at this time!

Which post are you referring to, Malumbu?

If he is mentally ill (which we don't know), he may be "dangerous" but he is not "filth".

We also don't know if he is already known to the police (it sounds not) or to doctors or to neighbours (assuming he is not living rough) or to social workers, and if so whether any of them have ever realised how potentially violent  he was.

I don't know if the so called "care in the community" policy still exists, but if it does and he would previously have been sectioned, or at any rate hopefully treated in a mental hospital, it has a lot to answer for.

I really hope the victim recovers quickly both physically and mentally, and is getting all the  support she needs.

This is horrendous ,

I really hope he’s caught as soon as possible!

Last week in the road opposite Sainsbury’s a lady died mid afternoon after an incident . Air ambulance attended and ground crew but very sadly couldn’t be helped .

I think this may have been domestic as no signs have gone up for information needed ?!

im so so sorry for what’s happened to this young lady and hope she gets her strength back to get over this x

i had read that the lady had a heart attack and was airlifted to kings  - so perhaps more of a medical emergency than an incident.  again very sad for her friends and family.

Is there a go-fund-me page for her?

I’d like to contribute, and show that I care about her.

I can’t imagine how terrifying that must have been, and will no doubt affect her for the future.

That could have been anyone of us.

A man fitting that description approached me, swearing, and repeatedly threatened to stab me this past June in Forest Hill. Like this, it was broad daylight.

I made a police report that unfortunately didn't go anywhere, but I have contacted The Met in connection with this incident because I'm uncertain whether they have put the two together.

Despite the 31C weather, he was wearing all black - black trousers, a button down black shirt, a black trenchcoat, and flip-flops - and appeared well looked-after. His feet were immaculate, and his clothes pristine. There's something seriously wrong with him, and it is escalating.

I know we sometimes experience terrible things and don't go to the police for whatever reason. I wasn't going to report the crime against me, but did so so I could stop other women from getting hurt.

If somebody matching the description has threatened you, please make an anonymous report. Please.

I would have been petrified.  It seems that the police should be able to find him / hopefully B4 he does even more serious damage to someone.  From the other posts he is targeting women ATM.

I also want to make clear that I can't be certain that it is the same person, I just strongly suspect it based on local chat and the police description!

Even if it isn't, I hope my description helps somebody else.

That said,  I'd rather there be just a single man out there attacking women rather than multiple! Obv ZERO is the perfect number of men attacking women.

He didn't strike me as wicked, either, just that he had taken leave from his own brain in a violent way...

There definitely a guy who matches that description who hangs around London and Dartmouth roads in Forest Hill.  He pushed past me very roughly a couple of weeks ago at the crossing by the station and he was shouting and muttering to himself.

If you don't mind me asking, what sort of things did he shout? I'm wonder if it aligns with what was shouted at me.

It was a reactionary post and inappropriate when talking about a real case and a real person who was harmed.  London streets are generally pretty safe.  Sadly violent crime happens from time to time, as it always has.

    • Disagree. Where are the police when you need them? People want a police presence, they want to feel reassured by seeing them do what the word suggests, policing, so go catch some bad guys, arrest, charge and get the CPS to prosecute with the evidence to enable this to happen. Stabbing and shootings are so common place they no longer even get reported in the public domain. How many crimes don't get solved? Rather case closed and forgotten. The number of low to high level crimes which remain unsolved is staggering.  The criminal fraternity know this, they know they won't get caught so they just carry on.  Biggest crimes which affect most people, probably are phone and car theft, both are prolific and what do the police do, diddly squat. zilch, nothing, provide a crime reference number and the case is closed. Not good enough, not by a country mile.   Met Engage? I don't think so.
    • https://www.standard.co.uk/news/london/violent-crime-plunges-london-homicide-rate-b1247078.html Worth doing a little checking before making assumptions about violent crimes. Recent data suggests a drop in violent crime. Gang violence will make a significant contribution to the numbers. You are unlikely to be attacked by a stranger
    • Unfortunately there are plenty of shops which don't care and will sell vapes, alcohol and weed to minors, I'm sure they won't care about selling them fireworks. Or the kids nick them.
    • It’s getting a bit annoying. We’ve a nervous dog who trembles when they go off. I know to expect it around Halloween and Diwali but it seems to be happening more through the year.
