M&S cheese and pumpkin seed crispbread ingredients

Recommended Posts

This is a bit niche 🤣

I like  Kargs cheese and pumpkin seed crispbread, but it's quite expensive even when it's on offer.

So when M&S started their own brand,  I used to buy that sometimes. It was different from Kargs, but ok.

Then it disappeared from the shelves for ages. I assumed this was due to the supply problems after M&S  were hacked into.

So I was quite pleased recently to see it had returned. But it now tastes revolting (in my opinion).

I have no idea what was in it before, as I had no reason to look, but on checking the ingredient list now,  the second after wheat flour  is cornflour (?!), and it's also got palm fat, rapeseed oil, cheese powder and potato starch. And some other stuff. Plus some  actual cheese.

I can't find anything online to say the recipe was  changed, so maybe my taste buds have suddenly become more sensitive, but after reading this, I'm appalled M&S are selling this rubbish.

Has anyone else noticed any changes? I'm assuming they waited some time so customers would have used up what they had and couldn't make a direct comparison, but that might be a hideous slur (if so, apologies to M&S).

Kargs use sunflower oil, and have  none of these other weird ingredients. I shall be gritting my teeth and buying only Kargs from now on.

Disclaimer 1 : I don't have any shares in Kargs. I wish I did, I might get a discount!

Disclaimer 2:  Yes I have many better things to do with my time than post on here moaning about crispbread, but I am having a tea break

(just preempting another attack from those people who haven't got better things to do with THEIR  time than post on here to randomly attack other posters for no apparent reason).

Adding info

I think the quality of a lot of M&S products has gone down recently - understandable, the cost of many ingredients and labour has risen enormously and even as a premium brand, they still have to find a price-point which consumers will pay, hence cheaper ingredients and bulking agents.

Crispbread is really easy to make yourself, if you're so inclined, and quick because you don't have to do the whole proving shebang - plus you can add more cheese and seeds, and swap out for seeds you prefer. Aldi is great for raw nuts and seeds at low prices for baking.

Hope it's not Covid onset.

If you google for just the 'cheese and pumpkin seed crispbread' you can compare ingredient lists in full at leisure.  I see it's only Kargs that mention emmenthal!  Even then, I don't actually see a universal appreciable price difference in the Kargs offering.  Sainsbury's, for example, claims to have them at £2.70.

Mme La Comtesse, if I may interject before I leave ...   I purchase my almonds from Messrs Lidl.   There I find the Turkish ones, sold for baking, do tend to be not as tasty as those sold in a big colour branded package for snacking at maybe a small extra cost.  But perhaps the baking contributes?

seeds are quite pricey though. It may be nice to make your own but not sure the cost, time invested and the faff would be worth it.

having said that, you can buy seeds as a bakers mix which seems to be cheaper.

I'd get mine from Waitrose. I did try Gail's but they were quite burnt.

So do I. Don't think so. I've got no other symptoms.

I've just had my invite for flu and Covid jabs.

I'm a bit worried because I was quite ill after my last Covid jab. Before that  they had been fine.

Then a couple of months later I got Covid  anyway 🙄

Not tried that crisp bread but do send M&S an email and see what they say.

Good idea!

I did look to see if there was a place online   to leave a review, as there is for their clothes (or used to be) but I couldn't see  one.

    • There clearly isn't one but this is a well trodden path that some of us, me included, have been on the receiving end of previously. Some people have been warned about this in the past but, seemingly, never learn.......
    • Really? I made no comment on any of his facial features whatsoever. I observed that he was "expressionless" and suggested that  "if only his face could break out into a smile occasionally then that would help ". These observations refer to behavioural aspects  of Starmer's performance as he appears on the media. Where's the hate and where's the crime?
    • Errr, ever such a knee-jerk response there @malumbu...I am not sure that referring to someone as expressionless is a hate crime - you're making a huge leap with that one and they didn't say they didn't like their facial features - what they are actually being critical of is the lack of use of their facial features.....;-)!
