Hi,

We are looking at potential property on Overhill Road. We have a 4 year old daughter that just started reception, but are thining of this being a longer term move covering both primary and secondary options.  In terms of schooling option, it feels like Overhill is a bit of a grey zone? For primary it seems like there is Goodrich and Horniman primary (we are not religious) and the Harris Option for secondary.

My wife is not too keen on Harris Academy schools and Charter East seems to be far away / out of catchment. I am keen to secure state schooling for both, if possible.

Thank you

Hi there, you're unlikely to be in the catchment for Horniman from underhill as it's minuscule but would definitely be in the catchment for Goodrich.
For secondary you'd be in the catchment for Sydenham girls and Harris ED but also probably for charter Ed from the pattern of the last couple of years - not in previous years - but possibly on the waiting list rather than getting a place on offers day.

It's of course hard to know for sure what the secondary situation will be when your daughter reaches 11 but that's the current situation at least. Hope that helps x

There is also Heber for primary? If you're open to a religious school, many of them now take children from all backgrounds of faith or non. I made a very very late primary application and got a list from Southwark who still had places and there was lots of primary schools.

Secondary, we got into Charter ED through going on the waiting list for an in year transfer.

Good luck

I went to open day at a local secondary school few weeks ago and Head said they are expecting a 25% decline in enrolments from this year 7 intake to the 2026 year 7 intake in Southwark, Lambeth and Lewisham. It is only going to get worse (or better depending on your view) so in all likelihood you will have a larger degree of choice by the time your daughter goes to secondary school

    • I've just checked my NHS record online.  Gruelling process, but eventually found last week's immunisation records under Acute (short-term) medicines, after having looked at my Immunisations section and been told that the information was not there but was available from my GP's record.  Anyway, my Covid vaccination at Day Lewis TJHC pharmacy last week was a Pfizer one. Krystal give me a little card with the vaccination details on it, and don't require any preliminary form-filling either.  DL provided no record.
    • I read that years ago, but I can't remember anything about it (but then I forget books as soon as I've finished them).
    • Poor cat. Also poor people. I imagine it was incredibly frightening for everyone involved, quite apart from any damage to their homes. And so soon after the massive  fire in Penge. I hope the cat is found and everyone affected in any way by the fire will get all the help they need.
    • Yes, I'm hoping for Pfizer, which I think I'm ok with. But to be on the safe side I've made an appointment for when I haven't got anything else planned  for a week afterwards. Last time I had to stand up for most of an evening and put on a happy face while feeling really grim (was in bed for the rest of the week).
