Attempted car theft - Underhill

Hi, just to say there was an attempted car theft at the FH end of Underhill over Friday night. Without wanting to go into all the detail, they were pretty adamant and took a great deal of time to (try) take the car. The police came within minutes, and drove around etc.. The police said the car was in demand at the moment. I don’t know if that was brand or model.

notwithstanding what the police said, all car owners should be vigilant and neighbours. These thieves were interrupted twice by neighbours, but the thieves came back etc and the neighbours didn’t put 2+2 together as to what was happening to the car.

The thieves were two guys, on the cctv it looked like they were wearing grey, but it may have been black (cctv can look odd at night). My neighbours said they were black. They had a bag with them, no doubt carrying tools and they may have been dropped off by a car, that is being investigated.

Probably a Land Rover of some description.

Or could have been a Lexus, a number have gone locally recently.

Could have been anything from a mini to a hummer 

Maybe it was a Lamborghini, gone in 60 seconds 😅

I know of 3 lexuses stolen in the last 18 months in Underhill or environs. Not speculation but fact. Other cars may also have been stolen.

Across the border the other side of Woodvale in SE23 there has been a persistent spate over the last now probably 2yrs of cars being stolen.

Their car was a Porsche (Macan). So it was either ‘Porsche’ or ‘Macan’ that was popular. Nonetheless, all the cars should be watched out for.. It's all relative and has an impact no matter what!!

With all these high-end car thefts, surely there's a case to be made for all new cars to be supplied with a Crook Lock type device and having insurance invalidated if the owner does not have it in place when it is parked.

Crook locks can be sawn through, or the steering wheel to which it is attached, I know to my own cost. The safest additional security measure is what's called a ghost immobiliser, which cannot be traced through the car's electronics, meaning it is difficult to bypass. They cost a bomb however.

OK, good suggestion and it appears that the after-market price is about £260. But if that that was fitted ex-factory then the cost would be substantially less and certainly a small fraction of the price of a high-end car.

Actually, if it was factory fitted then it's location would be documented. It's the fact that it can be fitted in different places which means that it's difficult for thieves to locate.
