Is it now time to stop buying from or using American companies?

Sure, for as long as that idiot is in the White House.

For starters, let's stop buying anything from Amazon and use UK suppliers only.
Here's a few  other businesses/services  we could easily do without:-

Google ( use Qwant instead)
Paypal ( use Wise, Revolut or Skrill - all UK based)
eBay ( use Vinted)
Tesla (plenty of alternatives)
Apple ( Samsung with Android is better value)
Cadburys (USA owned since 2010)

here are a few other brands we could easily find alternatives

  • Procter & Gamble (P&G): (Gillette, Pampers, Ariel, Pantene, Tide).
  • PepsiCo: (Pepsi, Frito-Lay, Quaker Oats, Gatorade).
  • Coca-Cola Company: (Coca-Cola, Dasani, Minute Maid).
  • Kraft Heinz: (Heinz Ketchup, Kraft Macaroni & Cheese, Oscar Mayer).
  • Campbell Soup Company: (Campbell's Soups, Pepperidge Farm).

Don't forget Netflix. A few weeks ago, the US issued a security strategy document warning of Europe's "civilisational erasure" due to immigration. Britain's culture however faces a greater threat from the more subtle influence of American entertainment promoting American values and the American way of life, a kind of "Netflixisation". There are many people who are happy to pay a Netflix subscription but refuse to pay the BBC license fee, so money goes into making more American entertainment while depriving the necessary investment into British programming.

I wonder at the timing of the issue of the US demand for Greenland becoming news again and can't help but think it is partly a Trump misdirection of Europe's attention from the dreadful events in Minesota and elsewhere in the US. Putin of course would love it if there was conflict between the US and Europe.

Not helpful and comes over as reactionary to use the term idiot.

He is a misogynist, possibly a racist, bully and a narcissist.  He is not an idiot, and knows what he is doing, worse still backed by Vance who well may be the brains of the operation.

To get anywhere you need to understand the man and why he has popular support.

Not that I can stand him and the world would be better off without him.

Starmer is doing an OK job of positioning himself.

Support or fear of repercussions?

It was popular support, the electorate, that voted him into power. As far as I know, even in Trump's America, those who do not vote a certain way in presidential elections do not suffer repercussions.

You've also got to look at Biden, and the failure to nominate a strong alternative leader.

The move to the right in Britain has followed America's lead. Although as with the oft quoted butterfly flapping it's wings in the Amazon, Cameron (and other UK politicians) contributed to this malevolence.

Whilst I would not use the term idiots, the knowledge (or rather lack of) of American's of history and world affairs is also relevant.  But you could say this about many here and across the world.

I couldn’t disagree more - Trump is an idiot and he was voted for by a combination of idiots, racists and arrogance

you can complain about weak opponents all you like - but when the alternative is a “strong” thug then the problem is those who favour the thug.  All we face was predicted  - and he doesn’t have widespread support across many parts of America. So that leaves parts of America responsible for this

oh and in the list of things you call him you forgot the bit about being a p(that’s enough! Ed)

Vance might be worse in many ways - but he doesn’t have the “glam” that Trump has. Once Trump is exposed properly or dies, nowhere near as many people will vote for his successor

    • At least he is no doubt classified as a "useful idiot" by the Russians
